HDMI Arc not working on LG OLED 65B46LA

I have had increasing problems with my LG TV (UM7500PLA) and Ultra lately. For months I could usually get it to kick into working by switching to optical and back to hdmi, or rebooting everything as a last resort. None of that makes a difference now, and the audio isn't working every single time I start my TV.

I have followed all tips in this forum post and elsewhere and nothing helps currently, except unplugging arc from TV, plugging an audio input to that port, and switching back to the Ultra. This seems to help. But doing it every time I want sound is too much work.

The only other way I can get it to work consistently - which is a little weird - is to load up my Steam Deck and get it to make a sound. For some reason this boots my LG TV into triggering the Ultra, and the sound usually comes on for everything. There must be some way that the Steam Deck formats its audio output that helps, but I can't figure out what.

I have a Nvidia Shield, a Nintendo Switch, and a Virgin Media TV box, all connected over hdmi to the LG TV also, and none of these kick the sound on the Ultra.

It's all starting to get extremely frustrating. And I would say that the more updates the Ultra has got, the worst this LG problem has become.
Hi, Please send us a feedback from the WiiM Home App > More tab > Feedback, and we will check the logs.

I've had similar issues with my LG B4 (2017) and the Wiim Ultra recently. I reported it and support found no problems.

In my case, my Nvidia Shield Pro was able to trigger the Ultra into life. It has HDMI CEC power control and Match content audio resolution enabled.

I've managed to resolve my issues as follows:

Wiim Ultra settings:
Auto sensing HDMI and Optical ARC: ON
Reduce noise: OFF
Automatically output audio when TV is on: ON

LG TV settings:
Simplink HDMI-CEC
General (device control): ON
Auto power sync: OFF

Also ensure that HDMI deep colour is disabled for the HDMI ARC port.

Note that the LG TV HDMI CEC power control/power sync setting is the one that was causing the issues for me, so ensure that is off on your LG TV.

I have followed all the advice above, and the problem still remains.

The Ultra has always had some issues with my LG TV since I first bought it at launch. But with the updates that have come, my sense is that the issue has got worse, not better. I have no sound every time I turn on my TV now. The only way I can consistently get it to work is to turn on my Steam Deck, which is tedious. My Nvidia Shield, Virgin Media TV box, and a bunch of other HDMI game consoles have no effect on the sound.

It's extremely annoying. I am thinking about returning to optical output/input, since that at least works without hassle. But losing CEC control is a sad trade off, and it reduces the number of reasons to even have an Ultra in the first place.

I'm having the exact same problem with LG OLED C9. HDMI ARC used to work better but lately the TV has been booting up with no sound more often. TV remote can still control the Wiim Amp volume even though the speakers are silent and rebooting Wiim Amp restores the sound. I'm using HDMI cable supplied with Wiim Amp and I have tried connecting the cable to PS4 to reset the TV HDMI port but this didn't seem to help. Strangest thing is that the sound works sometimes when turning on the TV and the behavior is totally random.

Hi bertb,

Please send us a feedback ticket through the WiiM Home App, and our support team will follow up with you shortly to help resolve the issue.
Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Feedback ticket didn't really help with the issue. I've now settled with using bluetooth to connect the TV to Wiim Amp. It's not optimal but at least volume control works with TV remote compared to optical output.

I confirm. I replaced B4 with C4 and HDMI arc works very well, there is sound, you can control wiim amp, tv decoder.
Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I assume no issues since this time? Power, volume, all HDMI CEC controls work fine from any remote (such as a streaming device remote like an Apple TV)? Thanks.

I just got my grandparents a B4 but am considering exchanging for a C4 after hours upon hours of troubleshooting. They need simplicity!

I've had issues with an lg b4 and a wiim amp pro as well, sometimes audio was not playing via hdmi arc and volume control was not possible via tv remote.

I've spoken with wiim support and they just replied with this:

,,LG TVs are known to have occasional issues, and we have reproduced the problem on our end. We found that when the TV is turned off and then back on, there may be no sound. We are currently working on a fix for this issue. Please bear with us a little longer, and we will push the updated firmware to you as soon as it's released. "

Best regards,
WiiM Support

I have a 2024 48" B4. I have no issue with ARC/CEC works robustly. I have an ON Google TV box connected to the LG. It does not matter which source TV or On Box. It is has been flawless.

What PCB version of the Wiim amp do you have?

Hi, I have the same issue as you have mentionned, but I try to resume my experience:
  1. - When I turn on my TV LG, it does not turn on the Wiim amp. (no sound). TV use then the TV speaker by default.
  2. - When I turn on my hdmi 1 (device tv player), it turn on the sound on HDMI arc, (I mean the return on the Wiim amp works!!) and the TV switch of the source.
  3. - Once done, I have to swith back to the "TV line" ... and the sound keep stay live on Wiim amp (hdmi arc), even if I turn off the device tv player.
It's very strange and so frustrating to use this workaround. 😩 to wack-up the ARC somehow.

My material :
  • TV LG 55QNED87
  • plug HDMI 1: Xiaomi Box
  • plug HDMI 2: Blueray player
  • plug HDMI 3 (ARC) : Wiim Amp.

to conclude, I am still confusing if it's an issue from the TV LG, or from the Wiim amp. :cautious:

Wiim Support got back to me a while back:

This is a compatibility issue with the WiiM Amp HDMI port. The latest version of the Amp has resolved this issue. Since you have two Amps, you can try the other one to see if the LG B4 HDMI recognizes it.

I had a Wiim Amp with PCB version 5. After version 5 of the PCB the issue is resolved. I acquired 2 new Wiim Amps, one had PCB v6 and the other v7. The v7 like what you would get from Amazon works fine with the LG B4! All functions including power on/off, volume, and any other commands work as expected.

So I should contact the Wiim Support as I have a PCB version = 7 and this is what I experienced so far. For me, it does not really do everything it promises. (I just bought it couple of days ago ...)

Yeah that's a good idea. For what it's worth, where I was setting it up, they were also using a Xumo streaming box that I had to basically reconfigure to work right with HDMI ARC. Not sure what you were using for streaming?

I have Wiim Amp FCB 5 connected to LG C2 with additional source of Nvidia Shield.
At first with early firmware (like year ago) I had some issues with hdmi (some disconnection or lost of wiim recognition on hdmi port) but for last several months this setup works flawlessly (in terms of hdmi connection), I have no issues.
