Hi,

I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone, but I will record here the results of a comparison of two measurement microphones made out of my curiosity.

1. Dayton Audio IMM-6 (3.5mm Jack)
2. Dayton Audio IMM-6C (USB-C)

Two microphone measurements are performed using an "LG V60 ThinQ". Then, connect the IMM-6C to 3 Android phones and 2 Android tablets and check the difference in the measurement results.

LG-V60 (SD 865, OS v12)
Xiaomi 13T pro (MediaTek Dimensity 9200+, OS v14)
Xiaomi 12T pro (SD 8+ Gen 1, OS v14)
Galaxy Tab S8+ (SD 8 Gen 1, OS v14)
Xiaomi Pad 6 (SD 870, HyperOS)

The microphone is placed in a fixed position, and I have confirmed that there are no errors in each measurement.

Due to the convenience of testing in a bedroom, the microphone position is placed 30cm below and to the right of the speaker. Only one speaker is used.

I use this audio source with SpotifyConnect. Measure by repeating 0:00-0:22 3 to 5 times.

I will also do a comparison with an uncalibrated "BOYA BY-P4U" USB-C microphone at the end.

To be continued...

First, let's compare IMM-6 and IMM-6C using LG V60.

IMM-6C

IMM-6

IMM-6 seems to be more sensitive than IMM-6C. There is a difference of 10dB.

Compare the two by overlapping them.

*Please ignore the 30dB 30Hz difference. This is caused by a pop noise that occurs after Spotify is stopped.

Next, let's take a look at the changes in the measured values due to changes in Sample Length.

Next, let's compare the measurements of IMM-6C on 5 Android devices. All resolutions are 4096.

Thoughts so far.

Although there appears to be a large difference depending on the device, the range from 60Hz to 1kHz seems to be generally consistent.
(It's hard to understand because the screen ratios of phones and tablets are different...)

Now, I also investigated the differences depending on the calibration.

There's less of a difference than I expected.
I would like to test it with other apps as well.

To be continued...maybe

simple...you can open the correction txt files...will give you an answer on the corrections made, their orders of magnitude etc ;-)

Today, I examined the effect of the USB extension cable on the microphone.🙂

Compare it with connecting a USB extension adapter and a 1m USB cable to directly connect the microphone to the phone USB.

Measurement results
Green bar = Phone's USB socket
White line = Extension cable

It turns out that the cable has little effect on the measurement. Therefore, next time I will try to measure with multiple devices again using an extension cable.

To be connected...

the simple presence of the phone near the microphone (cable or not), its glass surface etc. impacted the measurement (like your support..) particularly logical at high frequencies....
( I know that your idea is to do it by comparison and not "absolutely"...but to do it well and have more reproducible conditions...
try if you can to place your microphones at the end of a thin rod and avoid proximity effects (like your table too ) etc...it's a delicate sport if you want to go into detail...)

Thank you.
This is how I'm measuring now.
Is this OK? 😁

Chopsticks are excellent. 😂

Thank you.
It seems difficult to place it in the listening position. I use an arm stand.😊

I tried it on a photo tripod. The microphone stand has a thread from the bottom identical to the camera.

Now, this is the results of the measurements on 5 Android devices again using the USB extension cable.🙂

The measurements of these 3 phones were almost identical; let's compare the two Xiaomi phones.

Based on these results, I will continue to use the LG V60 and Galaxy tab, which have the highest gain of the three, for measurements.

Thanks for reading. 🤗

Any suggestion on what mic would be good for iPhone that uses lightning port? It will be use for RC.

@Wiimer after RC was performed, did you like how it was sound in comparison with RC off?
The Android RC isn't here yet.😅
If it comes, I will post it here. I think maybe the WiiM Team is having a hard time. I have given up on RC and am waiting for 2ch 10 band PEQ.
