iOS WiiM Home App v3.1.9 & Android v3.1.8 Update – Apr 5, 2025

Which speakers do you have and how far from the wall are they? The measured frequency response is well below the target curve at low frequencies so limiting the positive gain to 0.5dB means the target curve cannot be reached. They're Sonab OA14 – old Swedish speakers with a pretty cool design. The tweeters point upwards instead of forward, so the sound spreads out in all directions. They're what’s called “omnidirectional” or “ortho-acoustic” speakers, which basically means they’re made to fill the whole room with sound instead of just aiming at one spot. Sounds really open and natural – perfect for just chilling and listening.

Sounds really open and natural. Might not even work with room correction cause I got some very disappointing resaults from various settings, but I'm learning so it could also be the settings.

I am just trying to learn and was following some advice posted by @dominikz when the update came. So I never got the chance to try it using hes recommendations of setting it to 12.

"Max gain: 12dB
You need to have a high value here for the app to be able to bring down severe room resonances. A current limitation in the app is that the same max gain control affects both positive and negative gain filters, but this will apparently improve soon.
After the separate positive/negative max gain controls are implemented I'd suggest to keep the max positive gain below 3dB (preferably 0), and keep max negative gain at 12dB."

So that should make me settings above correct right? It really sounds terrible.

Does it sound a lot worse than without the room correction? It seems to be only removing one peak. Does moving the speakers closer to a wall increase the bass at all? It looks like you need to achieve more bass somehow then room correction can correct it without using positive gain. With a subwoofer it is easier to boost the bass without moving the main speakers around.

These speakers are meant to work with the wall, so they are already placed as close to the wall as possible.

Thing is I never thought Wiim and Audiophonics sounded good without EQ with these speakers in my room. This sounds even worse, but not that much worse.

So I really think I need to change the max and min setting to get something to happen. Any recommendations what to set it to instead?

Try +5 then +10 and see how it looks in the app and how it sounds. Also try the B&K target curve instead of Harman. People always frown upon positive gain but you won't know until you try it.

If you could distinguish the use of positive gain in the bass, like below 300/400Hz, and above in frequency...it would be much less questionable...an intelligent "differentiated" approach...
(after a "blank" measurement...it would be up to us to intelligently estimate more precise approaches, ""by slice""...moreover in the manner of certain smoothing modes "more intelligent")

If you limit the correction to 400Hz then there won't be any positive correction at higher frequencies.

Of course I was pointing that out for those wanting to do it in full band...
;-)
(after a blank reading...we could perhaps decide on the exclusion zone for the correction...even just in the bass...before the grinding of the rc calculations)

Here is what I got setting it like this, se detached settings and the the results first for Harman and then B&K

Actually +5 Harman is sounding the best so far. I know a lot of people seem to recommend B&K but in my room/setup it becomes to sharp.
