I can bet MC owners won't be using the Wiim Ultra as a phono stage.
...

cheapest to most expensive
You're betting? Again? Right after losing your previous bet? ;)

Please note that the Grado Lineage Epoch is not an MC cartridge.

Blog updated to say "The WiiM Ultra will be available for $329 in the US on Amazon and select retail partners in Q3 and rolled out internationally by Q3".

So optimistically, USA by July and internationally in the few months following that :)

I noted the Audioxpress show report indicated that the Ultra would be available "later in May", with the Amp Pro seeing a Q3 release. Do they know something everyone else doesn't?

Would rather have had a version with digital coax inputs instead of a phono stage. Will be keeping my WIIM Pro.

i own the Wiim Amp.. how would the Wiim Ultra work with the Wiim Amp? my goal is more analog inputs than the Wiim amp provides.. thanks

So that’d be two analogue inputs on the Ultra, digital out from the Ultra into the amp. An extra analogue input on the Amp.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned built in power supply. Hence, no way to add an upgraded external power supply?
I was using the Wiim Pro with an external LPS ($400.00 for the LPS) and I found that the upgraded LPS made a noticeable SQ difference....in every area.
@VanCan when I said the same thing last year that, when I used an LPS with WiiM PRO, there was noticeable difference in its performance, I was almost trolled :(

Still I can see few of my friends use LPS with WiiM PRO and they are happy with it and they are bit disappointed about the Power supply of the ULTRA, where they can't use an external LPS

I too expected a Linear Power Supply in the ULTRA, as the name deceived me in this regard ;)

Some of us had been waiting since 2006 for a (worthy) vendor to final emerge after the dumpster fire of Logitech acquiring Slim Devices... if we could hold on for nearly two decades, I'm sure you can wait out another quarter

(and if not, there are indeed other vendors out there to choose from)
I empathise with you on having to wait since 2006; I would have thought common sense would give the idea that there is alternatives probably. Sorry to hear you had to wait since 2006 :p

I can wait another quarter for sure,... given your 2006 rant I'm sure you can too :)

'Balanced' is necessary for professional audio installations.

It's overkill for domestic hi-fi use imho.
RCA is more than enough. As you can imagine people talk about balanced xlr and had no clue what it’s for but want that feature. Professional audio such as church, dj, concert studio balanced make sense. My ear may not be measurements like precision audio but xlr has dark background with no hiss.

That is misstating the situation so far as Logitech goes. They manufactured players through until 2012 if I’m not mistaken.

There have a few manufacturers wet their toe and since Raspberry Pi came along it has been very easy to self build a LMS player.

I do agree though that WiiM have been the first serious player in the consumer electronics sector to properly support Squeezelite. Those of us that have bought WiiMs for this purpose (quite a few of us) are grateful.

Correct me if I am mistaken but one advantage of XLR normally has higher voltage 4 volts vs 2 volts which aid in longer cable runs and better shielding as it has a extra grounding wire for the outer shielding of the cable also for longer runs to prevent interference from other equipment. I have a SMSL DO300 which has both XLR and Single ended output and I can not hear the difference feeding my Hypex NCX500 monos besides higher gain.

I agree with what you said since I have smsl do200 which has both connections. Just higher gain with no perceived difference in sound quality. Much like hype using exotic speaker cable would yield significant difference over ofc. Measurement show fraction of difference but not audible to human hearing. If our ear are made of audio precision we would have valid claim.

Well, most people won't be able to tell the difference between wiim pro plus dac and ultra dac. Still it feels good to have one supposedly better (I cannot tell the difference between pro plus dac and smsl dl200 dac). Same for balanced out. Besides, many amps already have balanced input. Nothing wrong with wanting to try them.
