New Ultra

Finally worked for me to play DSD from both Plex DLNA and Jriver DLNA

Yeah, like you found out I can play DSD this way. I just need to test if giving it a 6dB boost in volume helps. Looks like I might have to put MusisBee to work.

I've been able to play from Plex server and Jriver DLNA. I think when I had the TV set to output DD my DSD64 .dsf files were 24/88, and with the TV set to PCM it's 24/192, so something is different, none of my DTS movies would play unless TV was in PCM, not sure what advantage ARC is over optical?

and yes DSD and DTS are lower volume.

The USB out to DAC is quite good it seems.

Does anyone have any idea if using a Wiim Ultra will affect the sound quality in the company of a Denon DCD-755AR CD player, Denon DRA-800H stereo receiver and Polk Signature Elite ES55 speaker?

What do you mean by "will affect the sound quality"?

You could possibly benefit from adding the Ultra to your setup and using it as an external DAC for that cd player.

I wondered if the Wiim Ultra had a higher quality D/A converter chip than the featured Denon. And that would improve the sound as a result. But it would probably make sense for a CD player. He's basically a grandfather.

The Ultra should definitely offer a nice upgrade in sound quality! But it's only worth it if you're going to use the additional streaming functions as well of course ;) otherwise you could just add a small external DAC like the SMSL SU-1 to the cd player.

It's true that I don't use streaming services and I don't plan to. I would primarily use the Ultra to play music from a CD player and flac music files from an external HDD.
I like the presence of the display and, last but not least, the presence of the built-in room correction function.
In addition, the price is not so dizzying.

I just ordered an Ultra taking advantage of the 20% off Black Friday sale at Amazon. What would be a good choice for a USB hub? Not concerned about it being "audiophile" grade just a well built reliable hub. Thanks!

I'd say anything that comes with an additional power supply. Absolutely avoid hubs with a micro B USB 3.0 connection!
Look for a Type B 3.0 connection, much more solid! Like the blue one on the left:

I use this successfully with my Ultra, USB SSD drive and amp

Thank you!

I have a question on the Ultra as far as DSD to PCM conversion and the use of the coaxial digital output. As I've read the Ultra converts DSD or DSF files to PCM. That's fine with me. Would using the coaxial digital output to a Technics SL-G700 CD/SACD player (used as a DAC) work for playing the DSF files converted to PCM? I know that optical or coaxial can not transmit DSD or DSF files. But with the conversion of DSD to PCM being done by the Ultra my thoughts are that the PCM signal would be transmitted to the Technics. Would my assumption be true?

That would be my assumption too :)

Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed. It looks like using coaxial might be the only option. Thought the Technics SL-G700M1 had a USB-DAC input but it's just a USB-A input. Have a feeling connecting the Ultra to the rear panel USB-A input of the SL-G700 is going to be problematic.

That is what I know about the 700. It is dated 2019, but this would confirm the device has a USB DAC.
