RCA ports a bit fragile?

Many years ago I bought a recommended RCA cable from Tandy or Laskys and it was so tight it pulled off the outer part of my amplifier RCA sockets when I tried to remove it.
That I can understand. More twisting, less pushing and pulling. :P But that has nothing to do with the outer dimensions of the RCA plug or the recess in the Ultras casework.

RCA connectors are not bad by design. Otherwise they would not have remained in continuous use since the 1930s. They are frequently cheaply made or unsuitable for some applications.
Compared to the beautiful lockable DIN connectors made by Preh (as used by Naim in the good old days) or BNC connectors I would say ... yup, bad by design. ;)

My suggestion to those prone to disconnecting and reconnecting these suspect RCA connections is to find and install suitable short extensions. The additional strain relief will extend the life of the OEM connections.
Wish I'd done that. I was changing amps. A 3e audio (RCA to XLR connection) to 2 iotavx pa amps. When I originally inserted the RCA end into the wiim, I thought "this seems a bit tight!"

Sent my ultra back for repair/replacement. After 4 weeks I received a new replacement on Friday. Now using the supplied RCA cables😊

it is a connection-connector at a discount (year 40) very inexpensive.. originally thought and for decades for the BF without requirement, non-lockable, with non-controlled impedance (quite understandable in bf) ..
the irony is to have transformed it at one time for marketing history (wbt has a lot to do with it) in an attempt at a serious hdg product etc ... ;-)
the technical aberration is to have quietly imposed it in digital , in HF , for several decades.. there is nonsense when we know that the bnc, among others, has existed since the second world war for this type of use ....
the other irony is to put forward RCAs, with little material in reaction to the big wbt potatoes of before ( like eichman), even at wbt now ( nextgen )...so like the old poor RCA connectors or...xlr pro...or bnc... camac... or good old din!!
hihi
(always stories about money to make or save)
but I'm not telling you anything ;-)

It wasn't my fault that RCA Made it this far. I never bought WBT connectors and I stayed true to Naim until they started to adopt RCA. :P

(Yes, the Nait did have RCA phono sockets sockets when the pre-amps were using BBC already, but I call that the exception.)
