What speakers are you using?

Interesting that this forum doesn’t allow editing posts once they’re past a certain age.

Rearranged my rack, cleaner looking now.

Just for giggles, a 6-month update on my Paradigm Monitor SE 6000F’s …. So I got these back in December (at a very good price, it turns out), and first reported them here in January. At first I needed WiiM’s EQ to get them sounding where I wanted them. I don’t crank them up every day, maybe just a few times a week, so what I think is happening is they’re finally actually getting broken in. It started a few weeks ago, when I noticed everything getting very bass-y, as every listen I found myself adjusting the lower bands to less and less boost, until there’s now barely any. Still a little, because I like it punchy, but nowhere near what’re it was originally. More recently, like this past week, I found myself needing to make the same adjustments on the high bands. Where I previously needed that boost to get them sounding as crisp as I like, they’ve very suddenly become a little too bright. I’ve never had speakers change that much over the course of time, but it’s been a very pleasant surprise hearing them ‘come alive’.

I actually turned the EQ completely off for a bit yesterday, but I found I still preferred that little extra boost. Probably because I listen to a lot of 70’s and 80’s stuff that just doesn’t have the same zip as newer stuff. I’m not that anal about needing to reproduce it as the artists originally intended, I want it to move me like I want to hear it. But even so, I’m still hearing details in a lot of this work that I don’t remember hearing before, which is almost as cool as experiencing it for the first time.

Anyway, bottom line is, I’m loving these speakers with the Amp Pro, and very much looking forward to hooking them up to an Amp Ultra, which I hope will be very soon. More to come …

Just an update on my true stereo 2.2 setup with a pair of LS50 Metas crossed over to a pair of SVS 3000 Micros at 150Hz (my, “poor man’s Blade Meta,” setup). Installed a miniDSP Flex between my laptop and my Luxsin X9 (which is handling DAC, bass management and volume control duties). After performing DIRAC calibration, I recorded the below combined, left, and right response sweeps using HouseCurve. The sound is absolutely sublime. Now that I have the miniDSP performing room correction (instead of relying on the DIRAC Processor software in my laptop), I’ll probably swap my WiiM Ultra back in as source (configured bit-perfect).

I have a pair of Bi-Wired Tannoy 615 floor standing speakers connected to my WiiM Amp Ultra.

I have owned these speakers from new, back in the early 1990s, and they were originally connected to my Quad 44/405-2.
The Quad developed a fault many years ago (approximately 15 to 20 years ago), and the speakers had remained dormant in a darkened room ever since, until February this year when I connected my WiiM Amp to them and they awoke from their slumber, and spoke again.

Since the arrival of the WiiM Amp Ultra, my WiiM Amp has returned to use in my bedroom, where it is well suited.

Here is a link I found giving details of the Tannoy 615 speakers for those who might be interested.

How’s it sound compared to the quad?

Wiim system 1 (Pro Plus through Naim NAIT 50 - principally my vinyl replay system) through Polk Audio ES55 Foorstanders. Lovely rich bass and while not perhaps in the NAIT's league the combo of vinyl and 56 year old ears make this less critical these days.
Wiim system 2 (Ultra into Cyrus One Cast - for Roon lossless) plays through a pair of Dali Spektor 2 bookshelf speakers. Lovely system that is used principally for streaming.
I also have a Naim Uniti Atom running a pair of Kef LS50 Metas in my "man cave/studio" in the garden. This is a mixed system which plays vinyl, streaming and occasionally home theatre (in stereo). Great speakers but overpriced in my opinion.

I don't know, I haven't heard the Quad for approximately 15 to 20 years.

Something went pop, and there was a small puff of smoke, so the power plug was pulled straight away, and I haven't investigated since.

There is also an issue with my Quad FM4 tuner, and my Linn Sondek LP12, and my Philips CD-960 that were all connected to the Quad 44.

Eeek expensive smoke 😕

Yes, I would think so. I'm not sure which Quad item went pop, the FM4 issue was a flickering display, and failing to store station presets (battery backup?). The Linn Valhalla board and power button I think, and the Philips CD player needs new belts at least for the drawer load mechanism.
