Back in December I got an Amp Pro for home music stereo listening. When the tiny Polk speakers (part of a previous 5.1 home theater setup) weren’t quite cutting it, I decided to plunge a little deeper and treat myself to a pair of Paradigm Monitor SE 6000F’s. I picked those because they showed up in a search for high-sensitivity speakers and were very reasonably priced compared to other options, though I probably could easily have gotten away with the 3000F’s. Too late, and they’re too damn big and heavy and I’m too old to mess with repacking and returning. And anyway, they sound fantastic. They’re combined with an older JBL PSW1000 powered sub, which is still doing its job quite nicely. It took me a few days of messing with balances and eq’s, but I think I finally have it right where I want it. Nice fat (but not muddy) bass, and crisp detail that clearly cuts through over it. My only music sound source is Bluetoothing Apple Music or Sirius XM from my iPhone, but I also have an optical line from my tv to supplement a Bose soundbar and sub when I feel like rattling the shingles with a loud movie. But it’s primarily just for music.
I’ve been spending many hours when I can going back through my library, most of which was imported CD’s from 70’s through 00’s, with a growing bit of newer stuff added from Apple Music. Everything sounds anywhere from great to incredible. I’m so impressed with this little amp. I’ve always managed to assemble passable setups with budget gear, but never really had anything that I was totally happy with. This is the most I’ve ever spent on a home stereo, and it was worth every penny, as it continues to blow me away every time I fire it up.
