What makes you say that? Wiim hasn't done anything that cutting-edge in audio hardware at the moment... an experience unrelated to the topping brands smls etc in this area, but we're making a mark on the software side etc... and products well placed in terms of quality-functions/affordable price...
WiiM clearly has all the engineering chops and resources. They just need a good reason to do it. I don’t think they perceive sufficient potential sales volume to make the investment in development and production costs worth it.

I remain skeptical of those asking WiiM to bring out high-end products. Much of that segment is more impressed by name and exclusivity. Any hint of being consumer goods runs off a lot of those buyers. For anyone using an expensive high-end DAC in a fancy system and is willing to lower themselves to a WiiM product, the Ultra is already inexpensive and the built-in DAC easily bypassed.

It will be interesting to see what happens over time.

This is not entirely without merit. Look at the sad competition for that price:

Thanks for the endorsement! Some merit, not total merit, but better than without merit. 🤣

Yes, WiiM has the chops to do it. The effort really is just good design, decontenting stuff they already have. It can be a higher margin product, a flag product to establish it above the entry level consumer stuff. Market size? Not necessarily small once the word and reviews get out.

There are streamers with reasonable hdw but none with a good app. Some of us were influential in bringing USB out to WiiM products, when most people only care for SPDIF, as they do not know better. That was a major win. What I propose is the logical next step. I can see The Absolute Sound giving a Product of the Year award to such streamer.

I think for it to get more serious consideration, they’d have to put it into an even fancier casing. Look at the products from Laiv audio compared to SMSL or Topping, as an example. Laiv even makes Denafrips equipment look staid and boring.

Bling factor is a thing for the hoity-toity types!

Not for serious audio buffs. Good industrial design - metal box like Schiit Audio designs is all it’s needed. I’m talking substance/ performance not bling. A streamer does not even to be seen - it may be behind a shelf unseen. Bling is what kills performance value.

Looks nice! Maybe I can find some small passive speakers.

If they can implement center channel volume with 2.0 that would be great.

Drops the Phono input from the Ultra I see. How come?

Also I think these devices (streaming amps) should have at least 1 digital output so if down the line the amp dies or you simply upgrade, you can still get use out of the device as a streamer.

It's neither nor, I tend to think.

Exactly. Parallel bridging doesn't increase power output into 8 Ω or 4 Ω, but ensures there is enough current on tap to feed more demanding loads.

Measurements confirm that the Vibelink Amp has better PFFB implementation than the Amp Pro, so I'd hope for the former. If this unit brings dual chips, that's another step forward for those with hard to drive speakers.
What surprises me a little is the absence of language elements, the marketing talk around cooling efforts like on the vibelink...
( important sujet here more than screen)

Yeah, noticed that. Don’t know if the hardware/firmware would allow it, but perhaps they might allow reconfiguration of the line in as a phono in?

They do have a digital output in the shape of the USB port which supports usb audio out as well as usb media drives.

Another possibility concerning the lack of a phono input is that circuit requires an extra 40 dB or more of gain since the output of phono cartridges is in the millivolt range. That makes them very susceptible to noise and the added amp circuit may add to that problem. (By analogy, a few years back I had a VW ID4 EV -- it had no AM radio because the noise from the electric motor and associated battery circuitry rendered it unusable.)

No phono input is a bummer. I'll stick with my current Ultra streamer
I also have a WiiM Ultra and use the internal photo preamp, although an external one with better specs can be had for not much more money. However, I do agree, with my WiiM Ultra as an example where having an extra input is helpful--i.e. turntable on phono, CD player on Optical, and AppleTV on analog input via HDMI to analog DAC because the Ultra doesn't have AirPlay capability.

While I prefer other options AirPlay support is essential in our home. Sad that the no AirPlay trend continues with all the new devices announced today…
This is why I still keep a couple of old Airport Expresses around, although just about every room already has an AppleTV.

Congratulations to @WiiM Team @RyanWithWiiM for a great product unveiling this week!

WiiM has demonstrated that it can do highly capable consumer audio products. Many of these products are very versatile and appeal to many seeking capable compact audio electronics.

However WiiM still needs to penetrate the higher end dedicated streamer transport opinion market. WiiM streamers are very good but face user reaction in the higher tiers of audio playback, with negative reviews claiming lifeless presentation, lack of dynamics, etc. I suspect that is in part due to a lack of understanding how to set the streamer for external DAC bit-perfect performance (Fixed full, volume, EQ off, as well as other DSP settings). There’s also a concern of creeping ‘featuritis’ a concern for interference and bug creeping for what should be an untouched bit-perfect stream. WiiM can beat all this and raise its brand by releasing a top notch streamer transport to sell to the high end segment. All components already exist. I would see a WiiM Ultra Streamer+ with this configuration (essentially a decontented Ultra):

1 - Strict Streamer Transport
2 - No video display
3 - Linear filtered power supply.
4 - USB, SPDIF, AES digital out
5 - No grouping capability
6 - No internal DAC and analog out - I doubt this will ever pass.
7 - Custom firmware with the ultimate goal to pass out unblemished/untouched bit-perfect streams. It should have a 'Purist' mode/setting where the internal DSP is disabled, FixedVol max set, all EQ off, etc.- a dummy Purist switch to make sure reviewers do not miss required settings.

Price it at US$300-500 and WiiM would have a brand leader that would bring the utmost respect to the brand.
I pitty the fool that forget to also request for i2s output, in such device 😉

The famous "it would have been necessary that... etc." is hardly the subject...

on the other hand, what about:

the quality of the amplification and its cooling method...
the quality of the line input...
(and the volume control)
?

the rest is normally quite well known
;-)
