I've gone through this thread to find if there's a summary of differences between Amp Ultra and Amp Pro, but didn't really find such a comparison, so here's my attempt:

- 100W vs 60W
- DAC ES9039 vs ES9038
- the screen obviously

Am I missing something?

dual TI TPA3255 Class-D amp chips, and six TI OPA1612 op-amps

And WiiM Remote 2nd gen

PFFB is completely independent of PBTL or BTL.

PBTL (or dual TPA3255 chips) means that the output impedance is cut in half and the output current is doubled (before the output filter, the influence of which is partly mitigated by PFFB). This means the ability to drive low loads (down to 2 Ω) with high phase angle between voltage and current (complex load) is vastly improved.

I just hope that the "dual chip" design is real this time. The first announcement of the Vibelink Amp also contained this term, but was later corrected to single chip. :)
Dual mono, for each of channel its own amplifier.

Yes, but do you think they leave half of the amplifier outputs of the TPA3255 unused?
The TPA3255 can operate in mono mode using the Parallel Bridge-Tied Load (PBTL) configuration. In this mode, the amplifier channels are combined to deliver higher power output, reaching up to 600W into a 2Ω load.
When configured in mono mode, the chip utilizes both channels in parallel, effectively increasing current capacity while maintaining voltage levels. This setup is particularly useful for driving subwoofers or high-power speakers. 600-W Mono PurePath™

Yes, that's what I said, right? 🤔

It's true, of course, nonetheless. 🍻

I doubt that the power supply will be dimensioned for maximum power output into 2Ω.

I was pretty excited about the Wiim Amp Ultra but recently a couple of retailers in my country have started to list the unreleased Wiim Amp Ultra on their sites for pre-order with an indicative price of $1,000 AUD. Dissapointigly the price is very close (sometimes more!) than what many retailers here offer for a packaged Wiim Ultra + Vibelink Combo.

I think the proposition would be very different if the new Wiim Amp Ultra is sub $800 AUD but I feel like it loses a lot of appeal at an equivalent price of the Ultra + Vibelink combo. Form factor aside surely you'd be crazy not go for the packaged Ultra + Vibelink combo instead as this would offer more value in terms of flexibility in configuration and future options?

Example Wiim Amp Ultra pre-release listing $1,000 AUD

Example Wiim Ultra + Vibelink Combo $998 AUD

Welcome.

Yeah, that'd be a tough choice!

Yes. And Ive seen the same amount for the WiiM Sound, which is just heartbreaking. I could never afford that. Hopefully when WiiM release the actual prices they might be a little more conducive to my personal budget. But paying a grand for a WiiM WiFi speaker seems ridiculous. :)

If this is the the actual pricing on release then unfortunately it will be a very easy choice to go for the combo. At maybe 75% of the price of the combo is where it would get more interesting to choose between the two

I’d suggest they’re clearly placeholder prices - I couldn’t imagine the Sound costing the same as an Amp Ultra nor Ultra+Vibelink combo.

Maybe.

It seems that the amp ultra will be able to do pretty much everything the ultra/vibelink paring can, phono input aside, and what true audiophile wants snap, crackle and pop for breakfast every day anyway? ;)

For a tinkerer I'd imagine being able to put a dac between the ultra and vibelink would be appealing, but for me, for whatever reason, whenever I did this, including trying the ultra analog output, and used the vibelink analog input it sounded noticably worse than digital input.
At which point, for me, the amp ultra starts to become more appealing.

Yes, there are other benefits to the pair, I don't mean for this to become a complete pro / con list.

"you pay your money and you take your choice" - can't get better than that!

If the wiim sound was $650 USD (for one) then it better have sound quality to match.
Given the price of an apple homepod, $300, that seems pretty expensive (since these seem to be competing products)

I would guess both prices are placeholders, and that the AMP ultra is closer to $500. (Which would be $770 AUD) perhaps $50 more.
(since the ultra is $330 and the vibelink is $300)

The vibelink ended up being $100AU cheaper on release than the preorder/pre-release price
