The popup works, at least according to my experience, and if it does, the two other options seem pointless. I don’t particularly care about this but it feels like the app is getting more convoluted while it would make more sense, to me at least, to tidy it up a bit.
I got you point the first time but don't agree and just wanted to give some context about how this came into existence. I wonder what you would suggest instead regarding this particular topic.

For my Mini and Pro the update check in the device settings doesn't redirect but performs an update check for the selected device.
As both devices are registered for beta firmwares an option to list available beta for the device is also present.
Happened to me with either my WiiM Amp Pro or Amp Ultra, I cannot say for sure.

But indeed, I cannot confirm this behaviour with my Ultra (still waiting for the 5.2.720xxx firmware update). Maybe it was just a glitch?

The "Join Beta Testing" button displays directly on the Device Info page for all my WiiMs.

Just the popup would do as the buttons in both locations seem to just tell you that there’s no update. Might even push a notification to the app icon like messenger and email apps do when it’s time to update.

Another approach might be to look at Roon, Plex etc. and figure out why certain things work and others don’t and take inspiration from there regarding tidying up things a little.

Honestly, I do share your concerns in general. I just think you picked a very bad example. People do want to search for updates and they want to be able to update multiple devices at once. There's nothing to be gained in removing these features, hidden down deep. If anything, people want more control about rejecting updates.

So far, there is a notification arrow after you open the app. App icons displaying notification dots (or badges, as Apple calls them) are a double-edged sword, at least. I for one wouldn't want to see one more app trying to catch my attention ...

That's certainly worth a separate thread. Don't you think?

@harkpabst :
... "Right now the update check is still there in the device settings, but all it does is to redirect you to the app settings page for multi-device update. This looks reasonable enough to me."
Which device?

I checked this again and couldn't reproduce my finding.

I concluded that this was a one-time glitch, indeed.

PS:
Alternatively it might have been a brain fart on my part.
