WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.708441 - Feb 22, 2025

I just updated my Ultra to firmware 5.2.708441. Now when playing files from an attached USB hard drive I'm having an issue. If I select an album and hit play the track playing is in a panel at the bottom of the screen on my iPhone 13. Now if I click on the panel it is maximized and just shows just the track playing. Now if I click on the three dots in the middle right of the display it brings up a number of choices one of them being "View Album". If I select "View Album" the WiiM app is closed. It should go to the tracks on the album file I'm playing. Why is the WiiM app closing when I select "View Album"? This was not happening with the previous firmware version.

Just out of curiosity I played an album from my Qobuz favorites. When I do the same steps as above and select "View Album" it shows all the tracks on the album and does not close the WiiM app.

I find this to be some type of odd firmware glitch. I powered off the Ultra and my iPhone 13 with no change. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
The above issue was resolved by going to the iOS app store and updating the WiiM app. That was all it took. I did not think of this but it was a suggestion that was made over at the Steve Hoffman forum. I updated the WiiM support ticket to let them know the issue is resolved.

But I'm now seeing this pop up when I try to post a new thread...

"Oops! We ran into some problems.
This content must have at least 1 tag(s)."

What is this all about? I've never seen this before. What is a "tag"?

You really should at least enable notifications about app updates. The dangers of not updating apps nowadays clearly outweigh the risk of new versions introducing new bugs.

A tag is literally that. Very much like you tie a tag to your suitcase to indicate the owner a tag is indicating the main topic or topics being dealt with in your post. People.can search and sort postings by tag much more easily than searching for all variants in which a subject line might be written.

Think of it as a keyword.

That makes total sense. Thanks for the suggestion and I will enable the notifications. I just checked on the WiiM app and I did not find a way to enable updates for the app. How is that enabled?

I still do not understand why all the sudden it is needed to add a tag when starting a new thread. I belong to a number of audio related threads and it's not required in any of those forums. I've been a member here for closing on two years and in all that time a tag was not needed to start a new thread. Is this something new? So being a tech noob how do you add a tag to a new thread?

Thank you for posting this... much appreciated!

This is the digital VU meter on the Topping D70 Pro Octo DAC. And that spectrum analyzer is just 🤤. C'mon Wiim, put in a little effort for crying out loud...

The meter on the left is still a meter showing the analog dB scale used by amplifiers and is wrong for a digital signal. That is not a digital VU meter.
Then there is a frequency graph and and information screen. Both would be nice if they are accurate.

you are talking about usage function...when 99% just expect an aesthetic function...that's all...(like the FFT by the way)
and at wiim, over the months, does not even seem to have understood the "evidence" that you are asking for...

not for me...
but see..an even more important function, concerning many more people, as an autogain has been expected for years... it takes away from the fact that if you have to do it... you might as well do it well... that's also my long-standing feeling...
(i m just sorry for you... , and yes it is an aberration)

I'm not talking about scale or anaglog vs. digital, I'm referring to the appearance compared to the embarrassing VU meters the Wiim currently has. Of course I'd prefer stylish AND accurate.

Got the input meter ;)

But it's actually strange that the manufactures of digital streamers still includes VU meters as used by analog power amplifiers. Even for just looking nice there are better options.

Not this but looks nice and could be modified with correct scale and a peak indicator. Replacing "Advanced" with "WiiM".
