Most of the configurations are stored in the WiiM device, so you will not lose those. You may lose the app only data, like the search history.

Thx. it works, but now for a change I don't have volume control in the background In the playstore there is only the previous version of wiim home 3.2.0 Oh well, it will probably update to 3.2.1 at night

As said elsewhere, it looks like they’re reverted to the previous version until they fix the bug which might take a few days

Regarding device auto-updates:
Happy to report that my WH app (device = Ultra, fw 5.2.714249) displayed a message advising that a device update was available, and offering the option to upgrade or not. Also, on reviewing the device screen the Firmware Version line has a blue up-arrow next to it, presumably offering the upgrade if selected.
I will wait another couple of days to confirm that no upgrade is forced.
The latest Wiim Home app update is not yet in Playstore, but it is not unusual to wait a few days for this.

Unit will update anyway by itsfel no matter which option (upgrade or not now option) is chosen. It is only postponing the upgrade, not blocking it.

Observations on Dolby and the new FW upgrade to simulate surround sound:

TV Output set at:
Stereo uncompressed PCM - LPCM 1536 16-bit/48 kHz (works but still has latency issues)
Dolby Digital (lossy compressed format) - AC3 1536 kbps 16-bit/48 kHz (no sync issue)
Dolby Digital Plus - as expected not supported
DTS - as expected not supported

It appears that the "upgrade" to Dolby Digital has changed the latency timing of the signal processing, hence the sync issues, due to the more complex encoding and decoding of the digital signal that DD requires. DD compresses and digitally processes the audio signal and can change the dynamic range and other auditory attributes of the output according to Dolby's algorithms for what Dolby thinks is optimal. PCM on the other hand represents the digital signal from the original source without additional processing.

Since I listen to music and concert videos more than movies on my TV, I prefer the sound offered by the PCM as then converted to analog with a good DAC like in the WiiM rather than the digital signal processing of the Dolby algorithm. I purchased the WiiM and got rid of my AVR for exactly this reason. This "upgrade" to faux surround sound is not an improvement in my opinion. Since the WiiM can still output the PCM stream all it would take is to be able to change the latency for PCM to the latency used prior to the Dolby upgrade when the WiiM encounters a PCM stream.

Not exactly. There was an update on March 6th that introduced Dolby 5.1. I believe this was when the audio sync with TV video was introduced due to, I believe, different latencies between Dolby Digital (DD) and PCM . In my case the problem with sync could be corrected by changing the TV output to Dolby Digital. Then an update on April 18th another FW was made available that included Smarter HDMI ARC that had issues primarily with how CEC was implemented and used by different individuals, but this update did not change the sync issue with PCM chosen as the TV output. (See the 18 pages of comment on https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/wiim-ultra-firmware-v5-2-714249-apr-18-2025.6936/.) Due to issues with the CEC the update reverted to the prior HDMI behavior but most other FW updates from the March 6th and April 18 did not change.

Of course - it not only notifies WiiM that there’s an issue but also submits your device logs for them to help diagnose the issue.

When you raise a ticket via the more/feedback section of the app, you automatically get a confirmation receipt email with the ticket number and text of the form:

“We would like to acknowledge that we have received your request and a ticket has been created.
Please note: While our team reads all the submissions, due to the volume of tickets, we will only reply to tickets that require additional assistance to resolve the issue. For feedback or submissions about known issues, we will take note and resolve it in an update. If you would like a reply from us, please reply to this ticket to let us know.”

WiiM will take note of it if it’s a known issue but won’t necessarily respond (although they often do) to that effect. They may also get back in touch if they need more information from you. And as they say in the text, if you would like a reply, you should respond to their acknowledgment email.

Not hearing for a few days after the acknowledgment is not unusual.

No, I'm just waiting for a Firmware that doesn't create more problems than it solves. I'm still running FW and the Home App from 2 months ago, it works absolutely fine for me. I can wait till Wiim get it right.....

Except we’re not talking about the finer points of HDMI and CEC like volume and power control or universal remote capabilities. Or with the Ultra specifically, how the TV behaves when the Ultra is set to different inputs or outputs.

The case I’m talking about is pretty fundamental. One of you wants the TV to always see the ARC connection, even in standby, and one of you (plus me) wants the TV to see it only when the Ultra is fully powered on. That’s just a matter of completely disabling the HDMI port when the unit is on standby, or not, and letting that behavior be set in the app. If the Ultra’s HDMI completely shuts down it doesn’t matter what the peculiarities of the TV model are. It simply does not see the ARC endpoint, just like if you had a loose HDMI cable plugged into the TV. Nothing happens.

ARC/eARC don’t actually do very much, though what they’re supposed to do is obviously very useful.

Subsequently, pretty much much all the multiple threads about ARC not working properly are about things which are ‘pretty fundamental’.

It works now as before, so with scenario.
- HDMI on (TV) with speaker set to external
- wiim switches to HDMI arc
- tv remote can control volume on wiim
- other input set on wiim (i.e. Tidal on)
- sound comes from Tidal
- TV still set to external speaker
- TV remote still can Control wiim volume
- Tidal off
- wiim switches to HDMI input after few seconds

And this is how IT should work in my opinion - ofc as one of the scenarios possible.

When there was a FW with "Smart HDMI" it worked as
