5.2.723250 (In Progress)

Release date:

7 / 15 / 2025

What's New:
  1. Smart DNS Enhancement: Improved Smart DNS behavior by checking the legitimacy of the DNS server returned by the router.
  2. HDMI ARC Upgrade:
    • Eliminated pop/crackle noises.
    • Added Auto-Sensing for instant TV-audio pickup.
    • Improved the stability of ARC connections.
  3. Advanced Parametric EQ: High-Pass & Low-Pass filters now available (App v3.2.6+ required).
  4. Deezer: "Play Next / Play Last" options added.
  5. Bluetooth: Adjustable latency for perfectly synced audio.

Bug Fixes:
  1. Soundtrack Pairing: Fixed an issue preventing successful soundtrack pairing.
  2. Gapless Playback: Fixed an issue causing incomplete audio playback.
  3. USB Indexing: Corrected the extraction of PNG format covers from MP3 files and fixed a crash issue that caused playback to stop.
  4. Qobuz Connect: Fixed an issue where playback would automatically resume after pausing when using USB output.
  5. Phono Input: Resolved a no-sound issue when editing input mode via the app.

There is definitely an issue with this firmware update.

My system has worked perfectly for months.

This update totally breaks HDMI Arc. In my case - sometimes when it switches to HDMI Arc - there is no sound. The TV reverts to Internal Speakers. Switching it back to HDMI Arc doesn't work until I power cycle both the WiiM and the TV. LG G4.

How do we roll back to a working system? This firmware entirely breaks my set up - clearly not regression tested properly. It's definitely a firmware issue not a troubleshooting issue as the setup has worked smoothly for a long time prior to this update.
Apologies for the inconvenience. Please send us a feedback from the WiiM Home App>More tab>Feedback, we will check the log and roll back your device to the previous firmware.

WiiM are prepping a firmware update to roll back the HDMI changes but keep the Qobuz Connect fixes.

I am grateful for the support and eagerly awaiting the fixed firmware. Hopefully Ethan will reply soon with good news.

I can’t help but observe that in the past few weeks firmware updates have taken a device that was working perfectly to one that is fundamentally broken for both of my use-cases - streaming via Qobuz Connect and HDMI Arc.

WiiM is really starting to feel unstable. My sense is that they are so keen to fix problems that are reported that they don’t test the fixes to see if they are breaking things that already worked. They need much better regressing testing. I hope I don’t regret going all-in with them.

While I am not impacted by the recent changes as I do not stream from the Internet nor use HDMI, the recent reports should be taken seriously by the Wiim team. @jamster 's comments are not the first such, about the desire to fix an issue seeming to produce a rushed and flawed update.
Wiim - take a few extra days, double-check, and maybe find a few user-volunteers who can help, before updates are fully released. It cannot harm your image!

From my experience the priorities needed to compete with hardware and software products is: Quality, quality, quality, documentation, features.

Bnj having also encountered hdmi arc problems with the last update I asked the wiim team to give me back the old update which worked very well for me, and 1 hour after my request it was done and I found perfect operation (wiim ultra hardware + sony AF8 tv) thank you, well done and congratulations to the wiim teams 👌👌

Dealng with a broken standard and new devices implementing it every modell year will never be "done".

Makes me curious how well ARC input works in something like, say, KEF LSX II, in comparison, or Eversolo DMP-A6 II. I do understand the Eversolos only work in PCM stereo and not Bitstream mode, but the question is more about how it handles when and when not to act as ARC endpoint.

From what I’ve been reading HDMI ARC is a bit TV maker / model dependent. That’s the idea I got.
Very much so in my experience. I’ve seen it said that Samsung’s implementation is very much focussed on their own tvs and soundbars that getting it to work with non-Samsung devices is very hit and miss as I found out with my fire tv stick 4k max.

I have no info about these. But I can tell from experience that even high end devices made by Lyngdorf cannot deal with each and every TV.

https://www.avforums.com/ is one of probably many good places to collect information on this matter.

Probably the first “hi fi” forum I frequented a long time ago, but I seldom visit it now. I really don’t need another place to participate between here, ASR, the two main WiiM Facebook groups and a few others, and Reddit…

Well, if it wasn't for this grand 370 pages TDAI-1120 thread ...

Es Selley's WiiM Ultra review has had some issues.

I think a user-volunteer approach would be brilliant. Perhaps an opt-in beta channel where proposed updates get pushed to volunteer users first, for say 2 or 4 weeks, to iron out any bugs? At the moment WiiM's betas are feature specific, but how about having a "forthcoming build" beta too. I'd be happy to do this, and if something breaks I will just feedback and roll-back. All the benefits of the fast release cycle and better user engagement too.

Something like the Windows Insider program. That works OK for them, so why shouldn't it for WiiM

Exactly. This is why other audio manufacturers do not support HDMI.
If I'm not mistaken, both Eversolo and BlueSound have ARC input support as well on some of their streamers. Cambridge also does on their top of the line model.

Sure, but several other manufacturers do not due to its variable quirks.
