No, i decreased it, because this has no influence to the VU movement. Only increasing the Input signal from outside has influence to the movement of the VU. Nothing else.
So increasing the input signal, by implementing a headphone amp (to increase the inputsignal MUCH more) now I am able to have the same VU movement, as before the update. Everything is o.k. now.

However I am happy to find (for me) a solution for that strange update. 😕

Yes, the VU meter show the actual input level. So if it's not moving much it's because the input level is too low. I guess you found out about that ;)

On my Ultra all inputs make the VU meter move close to 0 dB. This is actually not correct if you look at what scale is used but if it's only for looking at something moving it works fine for me.

What about if you stream from the WiiM? Do you see same issue?

@WiiM Team said they will change the minimum of the scale, so maybe that will resolve your request for needle movements?

No, streaming with the WIIM shows normal movements. Thats fine.
Only the Line In is working different comparing to before the update.

Of course I would like to remove the extra headphone amp again out of my chain.
So if they would change it back to what it was before, or as you wrote "change the minimum of the scale"I would be very happy.

Was the only reason to add the headphone amp to change the appearance of the VU meter?

As we are talking about digital (PCM), this is the sample value.
Thanks. Digital sample value is an amplitude quantity in signal theory. Clear now.
Unfortunately you are misunderstanding what dBFS is.
Definitely no. I'm fully supporting this Wikipedia article. As a senior R&D scientist in electrical engineering analog and digital signal processing, ADC, DAC electronics and dB definitions and calculus is my daily profession.
EDIT: I confess that the definition of dBFS with RMS amplitude instead of peak amplitude has slipped my awareness.
Good point. But a full wave sine with an amplitude of 100% FS is defined as 0dBFS, nevertheless.

50% peak signal amplitude equal to 25% maximum power is at -6dB.
Compare to Wikipedia:
"For example, a signal that reaches 50% of the maximum level has a level of −6 dBFS, which is 6 dB below full scale."
Spot on what I'm saying.

See post in thread 'Broken VU output amplitude after update'
Thank you for this hint. Moving over there. Especially the WiiM plans to change the lower limit from -25dB to -60dB is good news for us all, regardless of "what is 0dB" discussions ...

@WiiM Support and @WiiM Team :

The new ‘Smart Network Enhancement’ setting, introduced in the latest Ultra FW, may cause issues in mesh WIFI networks. It was on by default after the FW upgrade and it was causing the Ultra not to be found on the WHA. I turned the setting off and all was resolved.

What are the servers they are talking about - streaming services? What exactly does this do?

They refer to DNS servers in the notes. In my case I thought it could be mesh network related but I do not know. My DNS is set in the router.

Just checked… the previous version had a Preferred DNS Server setting which could be chosen. It was replaced by this setting with no choice. Mine is not set and it works fine.

Previous FW settings:

I hoped that this release would finally fix Google casting and Mixcloud-App.

Still stuck on a test-version where Mixcloud is working but Qobuz-Connect integration is not available…..due to popular demand at home I had to switch to latest version.
So no mixcloud4me :(

I like the new VU meter display.

There’s a (at least to me) a new feature that I do not like: When switching from input to output VU display there is a short playback pause, sometimes with stutter/noise. Ticket submitted.

This pause is not new.
As I wrote in another comment, it's probably because they are changing input handler process.

That has been present for quite a while.

Hello everyone! I would like to ask if when I set the VU meter from Original to Amplitude, the sound changes. For me, the sound is thicker on Original, but higher and a little thinner on Amplitude. Is this normal? 2 Another question I have is that if I insert a USB Pendrive, is there a way to select it with a remote control and on the touch screen? Because it all works only through the application. That would be very good. I think this is a shortcoming. 3 . It would be very good if, in addition to the VU meter, there was also a multi-band EQ.

I saw that this latest firmware added a feature that had been requested by many. I'm talking about the "Evaluation" feature included in RF.
I tried it and saw that it shows me the same curve that you get at the end of creating a profile.
Since I'm far from an expert in room EQ, I'd like someone to explain how it works and what I should do with the curve obtained from the Evaluation.
What does it represent? The two channels (I've always used RF per channel) after applying the filters proposed by RF? What should I do after observing the curve? RF offers me two solutions:
Sounds Fantastic
Rerun RF
How can I tell if it sounds fantastic by listening to a Sweep? I don't think you can judge the quality of the sound obtained by listening to a short Sweep.
I'd be really happy if someone could explain to me in a simple way what to do with this feature.

If you haven't made any changes to the RoomFit profile it is expected that you get the same curve as you did at the end of profile creation.

However, some people make manual changes to RoomFit profile parameters, or add EQ on top: the "Evaluate" function then lets you see how these changes affect the in-room response.

E.g. I like to create my own room correction filters with REW and then manually load them in a RoomFit profile. The "Evaluate" function lets me easily check if the REW filters do what I intended.

The two channels (I've always used RF per channel) after applying the filters proposed by RF? What should I do after observing the curve?
There's no need to do anything. Actually, if you were happy with the sound after creating the profile, there's no need to run the new "Evaluate" function at all. However, if you made some changes to RoomFit or EQ the "Evaluate" function will allow you to see what the change did to the response.

On this note, I do hope @WiiM Team consider adding the "Individual Channel" option to the Evaluate function. It would be useful to see measurements of each channel individually post-RoomFit and post-EQ

The labels on the buttons could be a bit misleading, I agree. "Sounds Fantastic" should probably be replaced by just "Close" or something similar.

Hope this helps!

I assume that tapping "Sounds Fantastic" will save changes to the profile? (even if you don't change anything.)

In this case, "Save" should be the same as on the profile screen 🙂

Might be, I didn't test it (yet)!
