That was probably my mistake...

I’ve got the wrong device open; I need to adjust the settings on my WAU, not the WU.
I assumed that if the screen-off function is available on both devices, the other options would be the same too.
Why do they have to make it so complicated...

The latest firmware for Amp Ultra has been released, so this feature will be available soon. Maybe a few days later.... 🙂

Unfortunately, this is still not working for me. Both options are enabled, but CEC is still active even if I switch to another input source. Also, the TV is still routing the sound to HDMI receiver even if Ultra is in stand-by mode.

What I notice as a different behavior compared to the previous firmware is that - Use TV Speakers when HDMI is inactive option temporary fixes the problem, but only until I switch from HDMI ARC to another input.

I had big hopes for this update, but seems I have to continue using my 15 EUR HDMI ARC extractor which is kind of shame (especially because I bought Ultra because of HDMI ARC).

That's strange. You are describing exactly my problems before this update. This release (and the beta 5.2.809757) solved perfectly the issue for me. Might be something on your TV CEC settings?

Are your settings for HDMI like this:

This work for me.
From your observations it may be that the last option is not enabled?

Don't ask me why both settings are needed. I don't see any needs to even disable the last one.

Hi,
Yes, both options are enabled, but as you said it can be issue with my TV which is quite old (I have it for more than 10 years) even though I never had issues with the Sony soundbar. So for now I'll just give up and will try once I buy a newer TV :) .

Aside of the 2 hdmi settings, is Auto-sensing HDMI input also disabled?
Have a look at your tv ce settings. You may need to deep dive into the configuration menus.
Mine has these for example. I had to play a bit with these also to get it working as I wanted. Disabled a few things ans enable just first to allow tv to send my ultra to stand by (and it only does when ultra is on hdmi input. If set to streaming or other input the tv can be on or off and it won't interact with tv at all).

Hi,
Yes, auto sensing is disabled. Here is my settings:

From the TV side CEC is enabled, but I have nothing to control more (apart of audio stream format). My TV is Samsung UE43J5500 which was released 2015, so can be something with the compatibility or Samsung implementation.

Were you actually hearing 'noise' on the HDMI input? If not, or at least for troubleshooting, turn off that noise [option ;-].

No, I don't hear noise if I use HDMI ARC input, but it is improving the optical input which I'm currently using. Compared with my previous DAC (SMSL SU-6) the optical input of Ultra is clearly inferior and this option helps a bit.

I tried with this option disabled and it is same. Just in case I opened a new ticket to WiiM but I don't expect miracles.

It's a bit strange, as the WiiM disables the CEC discovery (CEC is off) unless you manually select the HDMI input.

In this case the TV should not be able to "see" the WiiM and should stay on its internal speakers.

You say that CEC is still active. How do you see that?

How can the optical input be inferior since only digital data is being transmitted?

I see the HDMI Receiver listed in the list of speakers. Also in this case the volume control just shows Vol+ / Vol-.

About the optical input - this is purely subjective. I get used with the SU-6 sound because I have it for several years already and for me the difference was obvious after the switch. I'm not exactly audiophile and my ear is far from perfect, so I'm happy with WiiM in this regard. My issue is with HDMI ARC which is nothing to do with the optical input.

The "HDMI Receiver" being the WiiM device?

I'm not sure I fully understand your problem then.

I hear a lot of noise from my LG C4 and this 'option' doesn't reduce the noise at all.

Because of this I cannot use Wiim with lineout -> external DAC is needed.

Does anyone of you hear any benefits from this function?

Yes, the HDMI receiver is WiiM. The problem is that - the TV is using WiiM even if the input source is not HDMI ARC or even when WiiM is in standby. Also, the TV wakes up WiiM even in case when HDMI is not selected and auto sensing is off.

HDMI ARC: Disabling automatic audio output now correctly keeps WiiM in standby and defaults to the TV speakers.

I wonder why we need 3 different options to control the HDMI ARC behaviour. As I see it there is only two use cases.

I would like to know what use case people see beyond the following:

"Auto switch HDMI ARC" ON:
When the connected TV turns on, the WiiM will switch to HDMI input and play the audio from the TV, except when already actively playing another input. In this use case the WiiM HDMI CEC is always on.

This is the use case you get with the following settings:

"Auto switch HDMI ARC" OFF:
The WiiM will only turn on HDMI CEC and announce its present when the HDMI input is manually selected on the WiiM. This will cause the TV to change from internal speakers to output audio on ARC. Similar the CEC will be turned off and TV will switch back to internal speakers, when another input is selected on the WiiM.

This is the use case you get with the following settings:

Do you see any other combinations of these settings that makes sense?

Honestly I’ll go even further - regular users like me need only auto sensing only when WiiM is in standby. If it is ON WiiM will wakes up once HDMI signal is detected. If HDMI ARC is not chosen I see no reason why the TV should route the signal to WiiM. Also, if I listen to music and my kid powers on the TV I definitely don’t want WiiM to switch to HDMI even if auto sense is enabled ( so auto sense works only when WiiM is in standby mode). Of course this is my personal opinion and many people can find having different options useful!
