Original message by Brantome:
As mentioned in a user reply from the WiiM/Linkplay CEO on the WiiM Fan Page on Facebook, WiiM are developing a new device called the WiiM Ultra which will have a screen, aluminium case and USB audio output. It should be available Q2 2024, so a good five to six months away.

Guess @Smartplug is due a prize (e.g. I'll lay off gently ribbing them about their constant 'when' questions) as I think they first suggested that name a while ago ;):ROFLMAO:

That's the entirety of the information I have, but WiiM do say they'll release more details in due course.

Does WiiM have plans to make an Ultra available to ASR for measurements?

I don’t know as fact, but…

Quite often ASR, Erin’s audio corner, etc., have units laying around for weeks, even months before testing.

However, both of the above have clearly received pre-release units and reviewed them quickly in recent months, the Fosi Audio V3 monoblocs, for one.

It’s clear that they value companies who listen to customers, who value accurate measurements (putting their own out before the review, which is brave), and who value constructive criticism. They both also appear to be aware of the ‘market disrupting’ nature of releases over the last few years of WiiM, Topping, SMSL, and Fosi Audio, etc., and want to support that approach and attitude.

Reading between the lines, I think Amir and Erin will get units before release, will review them, and publish those reviews to coincide with (probably just before) the official releases date.

I could be wrong, but that’s what it feels like will happen, based on recent reviews.

not necessarily in the case of armim..his measurements arrived a long time after that of onlyoneme (or vintage) and..when he simply had the time and was not at the top of the pile..and more ironically he measured early versions which have since been known to pose problems and to have been modified in the meantime... too bad...

I’m having difficulty understanding your context as if was just copy and paste from google search.

Amir did review a current sample in the end. From his review (highlighting by me):

This review has taken a while to get out. The first sample I received performed well in most of the tests but showed quite an increase in distortion at lower frequencies. This manifested in Multitone test and power vs frequency sweeps. I ran the results by the company and they said this was an early production problem that was fixed. They sent me a new one which almost remedied that problem.

That's pretty clear, I think.

I hope to buy an Ultra as soon as available mainly for its room correction function which is described as built in. I would be using with an Android phone. Now my knowledge of room correction could be described as minimal to non existent so I wonder how user friendly it will be for a noob like me. Will I need a separate microphone or how exactly in layman's terms will it work. Grateful if some of you more knowledgeable gentlemen would enlighten me. Thank you.

Despite that description, I don't expect room correction to be radically different to the current beta which relies upon the WiiM app being used on an ios device.

I'd either use the feedback section in the WiiM app to directly ask WiiM to clarify this, or add the question to the spreadsheet noted in this post

Really needs to be a wizard, with tips & tricks. If it's anything like REW it'll be too complicated.

Also to display results and recommend tips with clippy saying things like "don't overcorrect speakers, you want to cut peaks, don't go overboard, don't apply boost, less is more, we recommend EQ'ing subwoofer and speakers <400hz" etc that sort of thing.

ie if I show you this would you understand what needs correcting?

What'll be useful is delay/phase measurement, to correct "pure direct" mode which bypasses distances, or those with Hifi systems that don't have any L/R distance delay.

That's pretty clear, I think.
that's what I explained.....there were reviews of measures well before his own in the cases of the latest wiim...it's not a criticism just a fact...he admitted to having sometimes delayed and sometimes having small piles of devices to do and late... that's all....
onlyoneme not having piles of devices of all types to do was often prompt..and we were very important-useful on the first versions with problems of "plus" v1""" and more serious with "amp".... that's all.... ;-) ...

different quick "measured" reviews on the first beta series are really important in view of the previous ones....

I just hope, but am not concerned, that betas will circulate and that they will be quickly tested... ;-)
and wiim, having learned, will carry out serious tests in advance..

precipitation is often damaging...
;-)

no but reviewers are the things they’re saying and not don’t you think. he said the measurements were review thing that not so much be what you say is “measured” apart from the measurement that he done.

;-)
just for informations about somes conditions of reviews, (or first batches marketed in the case of amp....)
just hoping that real precautions will be taken in the future....

the childish excitement of pre-ordering etc. without any factual feedback necessarily surprises a little...
the best gift to give to wiim is really to encourage them to carry out serious measurements and controls in advance before the pre-releases released from the ultra...

I’m not sure it’s very pleasant to come to these forums and call everyone who’s pre-ordered ‘childish’.
I don’t think the adjective was being applied to those who pre-ordered. “Childish excitement” is an often used phrase to describe a degree of excitement that even adults can aspire to - if they’re lucky 😂

I believe you’re thinking of ‘child-like’. ;)

If that’s an acceptable excuse, I’ll file it away for future reference. (y)
I always hope that each other maintains a certain second degree on ourselves, me first (see that they don't forget to remind me)... and even more on this type of subject...
;- )
good day...

I always maintain a certain second degree on myself. Absolutely, a rule to live by. I think it was my dad who first said “Son, always maintain a certain second degree on yourself”. I think I wept in awe at the profundity of the advice.

I know I sound stupid saying it like that.... no need to be ironic...

just did you pre-order? ;-)

we will see when the ultra is here... there is already enough to do with the peq and rc by then....

I’ve not pre-ordered, no.

I’ll wait for the full review and measurements; I’m sure they’ll be great, but there’s no rush.

Nice device ! How is volume control implemented ? Digital volume control - reduced resolution at lower volumes - or a separate volume control attached to the DAC output ?
