According to the datasheet, this TI chip digitizes the analog input. Wonder why it is used, whereas there are many SPDIF receiver (digital front-end) chips without ADC - if this claim is true:
Good spot, that sounds suspicious indeed. I think we need some clarification.

If connecting a WiiM Ultra to this, is there a method favoured by WiiM when deciding whether to use RCA, Coax or SPDIF? Thanks!

This is a quote Ryan’s original post in this thread. Seems to contradict the “not digitizing analog input” statement

TI PCM9211 digital and analog front end

That doesn’t say to me that it converts analogue to digital, just that it handles both. While the actual chip datasheet says it has an ADC function, it doesn’t mean the vibelink uses it. The datasheet also talks of a routing function, what’s to say that’s not what happens to the analogue

WiiM saying it doesn’t digitise analogue input is enough for me…

So it has a “digital and analogue front end”, where does that say it converts analogue to digital? It could simply pass digital to its DAC and analogue onwards to the amp stage.

The amp has digital input so it has built in dac. I thought this just straight power amp.
With the option of digital inputs which will allow even a WiiM Mini to benefit from the vibelink’s better DAC :)

Like terms such as bit perfection, I think sticking to rigid definitions of power amps etc isn’t as important as the benefits that the vibelink can bring to a range of streamers :)

Did you read the "routing" part you pointed out?
(I don't see any analog output... and alpo point is quite reasonable. ....)

but more than that it is the problems encountered by armim for his review on this entry which need to be "clarified"...
(just it seems to me)

It seems to imply the PCM9211 is used for the analog front end and that has an ADC. I don't know if that can be bypassed.
