I run the WiiM Ultra’s USB output to a DDC in order to split the signal. One digital signal (optical) goes to a cheap DAC which then feeds my spectrum analyzer. The coax signal feeds my DSPeaker Anti-Mode X2D room correction and bass management unit. The subwoofer attaches to the Anti-Mode’s sub out and an iFi iPurifier2 attaches to the optical output of the Anti-Mode, and then attaches directly into the coax input of the VibeLink.

Did you finally pull the plug over on AudiopSychoReview?

I hope you will stay with us, though. It's great to have you here with us!

Was able to return them for a full refund. Same for the D400 Pro DAC. This nets me $1,000 back in my pocket after including the cost of the VibeLink.

ah... so here we are...
the famous ASR bias (if there are things to hear that I forbid myself anyway... the power of thought...;-) )

and the cognitive bias "great savings, can only be good", to remember for your subjective feedback...

I apologize for this--but I have a difficult time typically understanding when you write. I accept that as a personal shortcoming (English is my primary language, yet it is my third language, so sometimes it can be difficult for me to understand other non-primary English writers).

Alas, I don't get what you're trying to tell me here.

I don't think at any point I ever indicated that the VibeLink actually sounds better than the SMSL D400+PA200 combination, if that's what you mean? In fact, I didn't make any direct comparative statements at all regarding the overall performance of the VibeLink, other than to say that the sole limitation one might find would maybe be power level, and that's highly dependent on far too many other factors (distance you sit from your speakers, efficiency of your speakers, are they full-range or are they high-passed, size of your listening space, etc.). I say that because it is clear immediately that the power level is not comparable to a pair of PA200s in bridged mono mode. All that being said, I can confirm that the VibeLink is highly comparable to using a single PA200 in terms of power, if you really want a direct comparison. As such, given my own setup, I would not run a single PA200 or a VibeLink all by itself if I were listening to my LS50 Metas full-range. They need more power to get halfway decent bass out of them. The dual PA200s in bridged mono were sufficient, more than sufficient in fact. I dare say if I still had the IOM Ultra (Hypex NC252MP) around still to play around with, it would also likely have enough punch to drive the LS50 Metas full-range and get decent bass in my setup (my seating distance, my room size, etc.). Fortunately for me, I don't run them full-range, I high-pass filter them at 80Hz and use a subwoofer for the part under that. Thusly, the VibeLink has more than sufficient power for my application.

In terms of other, more subjective evaluative things, I would say that, to my ears, for tonality the VibeLink has more air on top, and a little less lower/mid bass impact. The tough part of this subjective issue is figuring out where that difference comes from. If I had to guess, the difference in air is from the amp portion, and the difference in lower/mid-bass is from the DAC portion. I found that switching from the FiiO K9 AKM to the SMSL D400 Pro (both AK4499/4191-based DACs) prior to getting the VibeLink, I noticed an increase lower/mid-bass impact--possibly due to known noise-shaping that SMSL has applied here. With VibeLink, the lower/mid-bass is back to similar signature as the FiiO K9 AKM. With regards to the airiness/spaciousness, we're likely seeing the impact of the PA200's design (which, if indications are correct, does not utilize feedback and thusly has load-dependent frequency response, which primarily manifests itself in the highest registers, with varying results depending on attached speakers).

If I connect Vibelink amp to a Wiim Ultra. Do I need to plug the 12v trigger cable ? And at what level should I set the amp volume ? thanks

Plugging in the 12V trigger cable allows the VibeLink to turn off when the WiiM Ultra is put into standby, and turn on together.

My suggestion for the volume dial on the VibeLink is play the very quietest track in your whole collection, turn the volume on the VibeLink to the very minimum, max out the volume on the WiiM Ultra, slowly turn the dial back up on the VibeLink until it is playing at the highest level you would listen at, then turn the volume back down on the WiiM Ultra before listening to anything else. This allows the widest/finest range on the WiiM Ultra’s volume control while limiting the quietest tracks from ever playing too loud.

The Ultra isn't different. If someone wants to see the volume control as an extra safety measure, they can do. But to be clear, having the Vibe at 100% volume is exactly the same risk as using a power amp without a volume control. There is no extra/different risk.
I assume the Ultra has options to limit maximum output, like the Amp has? That would lower the risk of blowing up anything with the Vibelink at 100%

Yes, there is a setting in the WiiM Home App to cap the volume lower than 100%, in 1% increments.

In Australia the Vibelink Amp costs $100 AUD more ($599) than the regular Wiim Amp ($499). Seeing as the US price is the same between the 2 models, I can't help but feel we're getting a bit ripped off here.
