Ongoing Beta Beta Testing: Wireless Dolby 5.1 for WiiM Ultra

Is that right? Does it work while it's in surround mode? If so, I will pin a comment with that correction.
Yes !

Look at WiiMs answer at 119#. I have tried it, works well:)

Update: I just saw your link to the previous post. Thank you.

It would be helpful if you tell me where to find the setting to add delay. I know there's a setting in you turn on the sub, but is there another place?

Are you talking about this? Because that's not nearly enough control over the delay to set it properly.

They said, "You can adjust the audio delay by navigating to Device Settings > Sync Audio > Manual Sync. Gradually increase the delay to align the surround sound timing with the front speakers, ensuring all sound reaches your ears simultaneously."

I'm seeing those options for device settings, sync audio or manual sync on the WiiM Amp or WiiM Amp Pro. Those settings are available on the Ultra and Mini I have.

The closest thing I see is the Subwoofer On > Syncing Subwoofer and Speakers > Manual Delay Adjustment.

Yes, Amp and Amp pro do not have an audio sync section, so unfortunately that method does not work. For now, you can only do manual sync if you use Ultra as master.

If you make the Amp pro the master, you can use the audio sync feature on the slave device side by making the Pro or Pro Plus the slave. (However, as I recall, this is not the recommended method and may not work well.)

So, it seems what I said in the video still holds true.

Yes, only if you use a WiiM pro or pro+ as surround slaves, you can use delay for the surround channels

As I mentioned, it is indeed possible, but in my previous testing I ran into problems. Specifically, if manually sync, then ungroup, then link again, the sync may not be maintained.

Also, the problem may occur when linking Pro/Pro plus to other WiiM devices. (I believe this problem applies to all devices.)

In any case, it would be desirable to add a delay adjustment feature that is only enabled for Dolby playback.

I'm using Amp Pro for front speakers and Mini for rear speakers - 5.1 doesn't work in this configuration.

@WiiM Team do you plan to add surround 5.1 slave (rear) funcionality to WiiM Mini?

Hi 3Kie, Team

We're exploring this option for the WiiM Mini; however, we haven't been able to support it due to its memory and CPU limitations. That said, our team is keeping it in mind, and if there are any updates, we'll share them with the community. Thank you!

Firstly, well done for this feature. What an excellent idea.

Just to add a bit of realism, though.

It appears this requires an Amp Pro, or Ultra for the front (you'd have to add an amp to the Ultra, obviously). Then a Pro. Pro Plus or Ultra (plus amp) or Amp or Amp Pro for the rears.

I think probably the cheapest way in there is an Amp Pro for he front and a vanilla amp for the rears. But that's GB £750. That's simply not competitive with an AVR. I love WiiM, but if I were thinking about adding surround to my TV, there's no way I'd go down this route at this price. It's all a bit Heath Robinson bolt on.

Obviously, if you already have an Ultra or Amp Pro under your TV, you've got a head start. But if, like me, your WiiM hi-fi is elsewhere, but you love the WiiM ecosystem, and is looking for a way to add it to your TV, that's prohibitive.

So this is an idea, rather than a criticism. How about you release a Mini II with just a bit more grunt - enough to handle support to the front for this feature, and rear duties. Hey, let's push it a bit. Mini II with more grunt and a sub out. Now that'd sell well just as a streaming hi-fi front end. If that had been available, I may have bought it instead of the Ultra (though using an external DAC).

Phase out the old Mini. You've been brilliant at stretching its processing capabilities to their absolute limit, and it'd be nice to give your hard working development team a well-earned rest.

Imagine that. With 2 x £125 Mini IIs plus a couple of cheap amps (say Fosi Audio BT20Ds) you have set up for £430.

Indeed, make a WiiM version of the Fosi yourself, it has Bluetooth in, so you could by-pass the second Mini.

Or some small (cheap) active WiiM enabled speakers that can be used as rear devices for the 5.1 setup.

They don't need to be so advanced. Just stripped down to the minimum for use as rear speakers.

And then also available outside US. :p
The company itself is Swedish. I am not sure if their stuff is available in Denmark, but Sweden is closer to Denmark than it is to The United States of Anarchy MAGA America.

The WiiM versions of the Audio Pro is not available in EU. I can get it from US for $200 plus $114 in Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Denmark. And I need two.

That would be an overkill I think!

I would need something like this https://www.samsung.com/dk/audio-accessories/9500s-wireless-rear-speaker-swa-9500s-xe/ but with LinkPlay included.

Just out of curiosity: Why is the Mini's hardware too weak to handle two rear channels in a surround group while it is good enough to handle wireless stereo signals in multi room groups?

As far as I understand the FAQ, the surround master performs all the 5.1 signal processing. So it would only need to send a simple stereo signal to the Mini. From the Mini's point of view it would not be any different to receiving stereo music in a classic multi room setup.
But I probably overlooked something. What is it?
