Avoid corners and walls: Corners amplify bass but often make it boomy or muddy. Keep the sub at least 12–18 inches away from walls if possible.
IMHO this is not very good advice in cases when room correction is available, which it is with WiiM systems.

Placing a sub in the corner will indeed increase overall bass level and the room resonances will be more pronounced - but that also means significantly higher clean headroom, while RC can easily knock down any resulting peaks. The intention is to have a very healthy bass level prior to RC.

On the other hand, with away-from-wall sub placement and using RC to e.g. boost deep nulls you can easily eat up headroom and drive the sub's amp into distortion.

So I'd suggest to instead refer to this article by Genelec on speaker and subwoofer placement. The physics behind their placement recommendations is sound. You can also refer to this post I wrote a while ago explaining some basic theory behind such placement recommendations.

Note that even this WiiM FAQ article recommends near wall and corner sub placement.

Hope this is helpful!

Good share! I should have linked that FAQ article. I was speaking pretty generally about sub placement, and point three was that RoomFit aka Room Correction can cover up a lot of things.

Agreed, however I wanted to point out that when you have RC the bass boost from near-wall or corner placement is actually desirable.
It provides additional 'free' bass headroom, and avoids SBIR nulls / bass suckout (which RC cannot fix).
Thanks, I couldn't agree more. The beauty of the availability of RoomFit is that it will take away any boominess while we can still take advantage of room gain.

Yes, RoomFit will to a degree deal with both situations, too high output due to close to corners positioning and too low output due to placement into the room. But the latter takes away from the amplifier power while the former reduces load on the amp and the driver.

The only thing to consider is that due to the slot loaded design we won't want to block the output on one side completely, so the back of the WiiM Sub Pro shouldn't be placed flush against the back wall. Placing it in a corner at a 45° angel is most likely just perfect.

With Room Correction corners are usually good choices for the reasons you point. The RC treats the boosts and with the other issues reduced it usually delivers a much better overall sound.

My main speakers (B&W 805S) which have front port have their backside at 5-10 cm only. This makes the front of the speakers (driver units) around 50 cm of back wall. I assure you that either with WiiM Room Fit and Lyngdorf RoomPerfect they sound like a charm.

Amazon put through the charge for my recent order. Previous experience tells me that the sub will soon be shipping. :)
I also noticed that they are showing out of stock now. U.S.

@RyanWithWiiM

Do RoomFit and 10-band PEQ use what is on the WiiM device side connected to the Sub pro? Or does the Sub Pro have these features as well as other WiiM devices?
Once connected to a room, the settings for the Sub Pro are mostly crossover, level and phase for the output. RoomFit is done by the WiiM device it's paired with, so that you can run it with all the audio in the room, not just the sub.

What will the AI feature do that wouldn’t be possible without the use of AI? Will I be able to disable the AI feature? I’d rather have a subwoofer that doesn’t require a massive server farm that uses obscene amounts of electricity and water to operate.

In this case, the AI feature is just part of RoomFit, it's only active when you run the room correction software and it's part of the tuning process.
