Filed a ticket. Will report what I hear.
They suggested I had perhaps re-installed the app at one point which would have cleared them out, and I couldn’t say definitively whether I had or not. It’s not a feature I regularly use, it’s just tends to be used when I’m checking out user queries.

Hi @WiiM Team and all,

The Evaluation function has been added and made me even more greedy.

Are these features worth considering in the future?

1) Comparison function for RoomFit profiles.

This function allows you to select two profiles and compare them. Measurements of profiles A and B are taken in sequence and the two responses are displayed on a single graphic.
(This is a task that does not involve profile editing. It only compares profiles that already exist).

And next is a little play function..

2) Blind test function.

Performs a blind test using the two profiles compared in 1. (Need a sound source for comparison.) When you tap the Start Test button, WiiM will play that sound and switch between the profiles automatically at random.

On the WiiM app, it does not show which profile is currently applied, only the 'Good button'. The user taps the Good button when they feel the sound quality is good. When the test is finished, the number of times the Good button is tapped is tallied and the number of taps for the two profiles is displayed.

(Personally) A simple sound source using a single instrument and divided into three parts (bass, middle and treble) is good to use for the blind test. It would be even better if the user could specify any source.

What do you all think?
🙂

Got an answer from feedback I sent

Thank you for reaching out. We will be adding support for AudioPro devices in the next version, which will be available in an upcoming update.

Hah; it only just occurred to me that it is not the same as the off-white one in my gallery. It might as well be the same, I don’t see much of a difference as you can tell.
That's what I thought. :D

Admittedly, I had to look thrice to spot the difference. Since I don't care too much about any meters on my Ultra or Amp Ultra the different faces are of equal importance to me. ;)

I should add that I still like the blue one the least.

Until then I'll use my C3 as the world's most expensive paperweight, maybe. (And the two more in transit as bookends?)

This is really poor, isn't it? And it's coming from someone who has been Apple-fanboy-like re- all things Wiim to friends and family - any flurry of sales in the Buckinghamshire area, that's down to me that is!

This VU meter becoming waste of resource to spend for users that asking for more. A simple VU meter that’s already included is more than enough and if they want more sophisticated they can purchase that from Amazon with different display and settings and place it on top of the Wiim.

Just getting up and seeing this Audio Pro/Wiim issue. Can @WiiM Team please, PLEASE elaborate on this and let us folks that have Audio Pro and Wiim products know what is going on?

"We will consider removing this restriction in the next version update." Why the hell kind of statement is that?

There was no reason to suspect that these products would not work together since they both use Linkplay and seem to have a partnership of some kind.

I feel like I'm back with Sonos, just can't get it friggin right when choosing multiroom audio....

How would an external VU meter work when what is needed to be measured is the dBFS amplitude of the raw digital input, of the input with applied gain (pre-gain and EQ) and of the digital output with volume limiter?

VU meter are just for user to pleased their eyes while listening. Wiim is streaming music device to pleased your ears not your eyes.

One of the major selling points of the Wiim Ultra is its screen, the purpose of which is, largely, to please your eyes. It isn’t shocking that they’re working to improve that aspect of it. And that said, I doubt that the VU meter is consuming all that much in terms of resources, whether you’re referring to the onboard processing power of the unit or the development resources of the company.

That were we don't agree. I never use the VU meter while playing, only while changing the configurations.

But to be honest, I have given up making WiiM understand as I can see that many others don't get it either.

VU meters was invented to monitor the dynamics and limits of the signal, originally for analog power output, but with the dBFS scale it also works for digital.

IMHO expecting the VU meter to show meaningful levels is reasonable. This shouldn't require any more capacity that it takes up now. So if it exists, why not make it useful to people that need it?

That being said, I dislike digital VU-meters on modern streaming gear altogether. To me they always look out of place and a bit tacky.

For the purpose of optimizing gain-staging I'd personally rather have a two-channel digital peak level meter display option, with clipping indication.

I'd disagree slightly -- the original primary use of a VU meter wasn't for power amps but rather for controlling the signal level in recording and broadcasting. For example, on my open reel it was important to have the peaks at the correct level -- too high and you have saturation and distortion, too low and you are worsening the S/N ratio, wasting available headroom. For home playback these days they are rather useless from a technical standpoint but a lot of people do like them for appearance reasons.
