WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.632547 Update - Oct 15, 2024

Chromecast is 24/96 max no?
No, the Chromecast audio device might well have been, but my WiiM Pro/ Pro Plus happily support up to 24/192 which I reported on the forum when the Pro was released (it might even have been before that as I had a beta test device)

Aha that's new to me. I thought it was the protocol that was limited. Interesting. Thanks!

With only a FLAC CD collection in 44/16 with some 44/24 it doesn't really matter?... Still the mind...

So a Fw update arrived, I personally have not received it yet, but I have seen the release notes.
I am a little disappointed. Still no new clock or wallpaper (meters) for the screen. Yet, if I remember correctly @WiiM Team had said that with an update on October 10th there would be news in this sense. Is it possible that it is so difficult to add some clock or meter? Definitely, at the moment, the screen is underused. 🤔
I hope they provide soon.

Looking at the new roadmap, the clock is scheduled to be added in the October 20 update, not sure if there will be another update in 5 days, but let's wait a little longer.😉

"Chromecast Enhancements: Added bit-perfect playback support and reduced pop noise on Chromecast Audio."

Chromecast with Youtube Music works noticeably faster. I don't know if it's like with other Wiim streamers - co I cannot confirm if the delay is totally fixed or still partially.

Would be nice to see bitrate of the songs when listening Youtube Music. Is there a reason why it's still not there? I feel calmer when I see this info

Yes - WiiM stated that they couldn’t reliably determine that information from the CC stream

Can someone explain what exactly changed with Chromecast and why it's bit perfect now (and why it wasn't before)?

There’s been a lot of discussion about it in the forum Ultra threads. Briefly, WiiM switched (or had to switch) from Chromecast to Google Cast 2.0 and initially could only deliver up to 24/48. They’ve been working closely with Google to improve the resolution and stability and that seems to have come to fruition with this firmware release.

For some strange reason my VU meter never gets above the null level. ( unless the volume is on ' wake the underworld ' )
It is moving though, but surely not 'calibrated' onto minimum level

I'm a bit of a broken record on the clock issue, but my complaint about the current standby clock involves the constantly changing backgrounds, many of which make the clock difficult to read due to poor constrast against the numbers. I'd be happy if they just do the clock against a black background or allow the use to choose a single, static background image.

Hence I use the hippie clock. Which I really appreciate btw.

Yes thats why I started saying dark background and white numbers. The changing background drives me nuts too, and the changing colors of the hippie one are also distracting. Just a sober one. The nixie clock would just change the sound of the wiim and make it more analog sounding, better than spending 5k on a power cable

There's something not right with USB out when using HDMI in with a multichannel audio source - my guess is that it's only passing through the Rear Left and Right channels, or the stereo downmix is otherwise broken.
