I'm so happy to see Spotify's Recently Played on the Ultra screen, but there's one issue : the 'Favourite Tracks' playlist keeps a history of every single track.

When I play a 'Favourite Tracks' playlist, each track remains in the history. The playlist history does not.

Also, the WHA Recently Played does not keep a history, will this be supported in a future app update?

# The 'Favourite Tracks' playlist is the list that is saved when you press the Good button on a track.

Thank you.
I think this is the nature if how Spotify Connect works. Only one track URL at the time is forwarded to the WiiM device and the WiiM Home App don't know anything about it (unless you use the app).

The recently played list is cept on the local device and not distrbuted to other devices.

Hmm, but other playlists are shown in Recent played on the Ultra screen. Also I can register Favourite Tracks playlist in the WHA presets.

Hello, for every VU meter lovers... the reading at "output amplitude" seems to be dead. Nothing serious, but worth note it...
Did you try to turn it all the way up?

The readings are bad and wrong but it still works at very high volume.

On my device it's inert, disregarding of the volume.
Well, it's fresh meat for a future update! 🤣🤣🤣

-edit-
Another little spass... in "original signal" the VU reading is quite erratic.
During the rotation of the volume wheel, the needle often bumps full scale.
Amusing behavior, but definitely worth of the "previous version" beta choice. ;)

For me too, everything (according to the line input) now is complete wrong.
With the same settings as before on the VU I now have absolute no movement, no matter which of the two settings I choose! No movement!

Before the update I could set the Volume of my TV on 18 out of 50, set the pregain on Wiim to max, and could set the Volume on Wiim to 80. My Amp was set to normal Volume. Everything on the VU was fine. Normal, as I expected that.

Now, after the update, I have to set my TV Out on 40 to 45(!) (out of 50), so nearly MAXed output, Put the Pregain on Wiim to the lowest, put the volume on theWiim to 98 (!), and my Amp to absolute Minimum Volume. So now after the update everything is the wrong way.
And I think you know, that if you max out everything BEFORE the Amp too all other cracks, and klicks are amplified too to max. This should absolutely not be the case. And all this, only to see a little movement on VU..

Please guys, put the VU settings back to where they were before the update, especially to the Line Input.

I do not want to set everything to Max, only to see some little movement on the VU! As it is, it is awfull! 😔

BTW: Is it possible to go back to the previous Firmware? If yes, how?

Welcome.

The Join Beta Testing option within Device Info (Ultra only I believe) allows you to go back to a previous version, but not the previous version as we were expecting / hoping.

Interesting update! But a step forward and a step to the wrong side, at the same time.
The good: The VU meter is becoming a useful tool for peak metering at 0dB = 0dBFS and for output gain staging.
The bad: The new scale ranging from -25dB to +3dB is too limited, making the needle dynamics nervous and useless for quiet tracks or at low volume settings at the Ultra.

Here are my steps and observation for discussion:
1. Use Audio input "Ethernet" for example Tidal Hi-Res, and an ambient trance dance track with bass and base drum hard limited to consistently 0 dBFS by the mastering engineer using a loudness maximizer. My choice: "An Evening with Bobi Bros" by Trentemoller.
2. In screen settings - playback screen - chose VU meter, and set mode to "Original Signal". Now the VU meter peaks at exactly 0dB, with this track. Great, that's the way it should be!
3. Audio input - Pre-Gain: Set to +3dB or -10dB: The VU meter does not change, proving it is the "Original Signal" before any processing by the Ultra. Of course, "Original Signal" VU meter is not influenced by EQ, Room Fit or Output Volume. All fine.
4. However, I would have expected somehow that it is really a "Pre" gain so the "Original Signal" VU Meter would reflect it, too. Maybe a third meter option "Signal with pre-gain" would make sense. This could help adjusting pre-gain to max out digital dynamic range from different inputs.
5. Turn off EQ, Room Fit, and set Output Volume to 100%, or Volume Limit to 100% with Fixed Volume Output (check amp settings to protect speakers). Switch in VU meter mode to "Output signal". Again, the VU meter peaks at exactly 0dB, with the same track. Great again, with no processing or volume applied to the original signal.
6. Now set the volume to 90%. Output VU meter peaks a little below the -5dB reading. Now add an audio input pre-gain of +6dB. Again, the VU meter peaks at exactly 0dB. Proving that10% volume equals to 6dB gain. Known here before.
7. Now add an audio input pre-gain of +10dB in total! Amp volume down, protect your speakers! The VU meter peaks at above +3dB, indicating overdrive of the FS range. Please check if you can notice distortion in the output. Have to check with a scope or spectrum analyzer for myself, next time.
8. Now set input gain to 0dB. Turn down volume limit to 60%, fixed volume. This equals to -24dB. Consequently, the needle of the output VU meter hardly moves. This is because the lower limit is -25dB. I recommend WIIM to set the lower limit of the VU meter to -50dB!
9. Now activate EQ and Room Fit, which in most cases add some gain. Now you can use the output VU meter to set the volume limit for 0dBFS peak, maximizing drive of the DAC dynamic range!
10. For getting confidence, create a graphic EQ with all gains set to +6dB, and check if a change of -10% in volume limit gets the same peak at the output VU meter.

My recomendations as engineer, musician and sound designer used to audio metering and mastering with Steinberg Wavelab, as a reference, to WIIM:
1. Change the VU meter scale from -25dB to +3dB to -50dB to +3dB, keeping 0dBFS at 0dB VU.
2. Increase the decay time parameter of the VU meter for less nervous needle action.
3. Think of a third VU meter option "Signal with pre-gain", for internal gain staging.

Comments welcome!
