As mentioned in a user reply from the WiiM/Linkplay CEO on the WiiM Fan Page on Facebook, WiiM are developing a new device called the WiiM Ultra which will have a screen, aluminium case and USB audio output. It should be available Q2 2024, so a good five to six months away.

Guess @Smartplug is due a prize (e.g. I'll lay off gently ribbing them about their constant 'when' questions) as I think they first suggested that name a while ago ;):ROFLMAO:

That's the entirety of the information I have, but WiiM do say they'll release more details in due course.

@Smartplug, @hoohoohoo,

Thanks.

My router supports 6E, so I would like to try it with the ultra. Right now I only have one 6E device, the WiiM amp is connected to Ethernet, but I will replace the router when the WiiM amp pro supports Wi-Fi 7. 😁

I already have WiFi 7 router but you can’t take advantage it’s potential such as mlo because there’s hardly any device to support the standard. By the time WiFi 7 client become widely available WiFi 8 would be on the horizon. In fact many iot don’t support 5ghz and still on legacy 2.4ghz. Japan is one most advanced country on earth from car down to toy.

You do realize that all the WiiM products to date come with only 10/100 Mbps LAN module. So, what is the likely benefit of 6E or 7??

Very busy wifi environments such as appartment complexes will benefit. I had cases with my old NAD which only supported 2.4Ghz wifi where the available bandwidth was too low for hi res TIDAL playback at some times of day, even after fiddling with the AP to try to find a less busy channel

It’s true it only support 10/10 mbps but how often people connect their streamer on ethernet? Majority of them are connected to WiFi and if you live in apartment complex in urban area the interference are so bad. You run speed test even in 5ghz will cut your isp to a third. Now, using the latest 6ghz will allow you to avoid interference and get close to your isp speed till 6ghz band become congested. This where WiFi 6e and 7 make sense.

Of course I know. 🙂
we have a lot of 5GHz devices in our house and would like to use 6GHz for media devices (FireTV, etc.).
As @bherren says, I don't want the speed.

Edit ;
What I want is more stable communication.

Yes that’s the key stability and you’re the only one using 6ghz you get no interference and get the speed that you pay on your isp.

Now I need to find a 6Ghz OpenWRT compatible router that doesn't cost an arm and a leg :-) My Netgear WAX 206 was great considering I paid only about $80AUD for it.. but 5Ghz is its limit (Wifi 7 on openwrt looks like a year or two away...)

Does anyone know if Wiims DSP is processed at a fixed sample rate like the Eversolo does at 48/24 and MiniDSP kit or is it at the source up to 192/24?

Best to get a side gig to pay for one :)

It looks like 6E support was pulled into OpenWRT, but no idea how mature it is at this point

Yes it takes years to see client of WiFi 7 to become a standard but as of now there’s hardly any client to support the standard. WiFi 7 is expensive as of now but eventually it will go down as more company produce them. I already have the WiFi 7 and what I need now is iPhone that support it. Hopefully, iPhone 16 that will get release this year support it. Why did I get WiFi 7 when I have no client to support it? It did benefits my 5ghz clients since I have a lot of them and old router would struggle.

My apologies to everyone, whilst I’ve seen release dates/estimates mentioned, I’ve sort of tuned out of the intricacies, as the first dates offered at launch were earlier than I was going to be able to purchase.

In short, the date on which I had the funds was the pertinent factor, as that would come after the date the Ultra goes on sale.

Circumstances have now changed, and I should have funds much earlier.

So, what are the estimated release dates for the Ultra in the USA and Europe?

Many thanks.

WiiM have only confirmed Q3 for the USA in the Ultra announcement thread, and couldn’t confirm a date for UK availability in the q&a spreadsheet. As I’ve said here and elsewhere, I’d expect late June/July for the USA and from past experience, delivery in the UK/EU maybe even into August. Personally I’d rather be given a later date and be pleasantly surprised if it arrived earlier, rather than expecting an early delivery and being constantly disappointed if it were to slip. But these are just my guesses.

I’m surprised he’s surprised it’s not based on Android - WiiM devices have been an evolution, building on the previous model(s) and if it had been Android based rather than I believe Tina Linux , WiiM would have been yelling from the rooftops that a potential door to hi res Apple Music support could have been available.

And “moving their iOS device around the room as the Ultra plays two minutes of white noise” for room correction. Really??

Edit: and again a blinkered view of Amazon Music. I know he doesn’t use it but there’s no mention of AlexaCast which is I think still one of WiiM’s USPs. Amazon Music isn’t only delivered via the WiiM Home app.

Good afternoon, guys! It had been a while since I participated in the forum. Very happy with all the new features, except the screen, which I don't see much use for. John Darko doesn't mention anything new to us. I also wonder if Link Play will have some kind of detail for us, those of us who have been following the entire evolution of the product. The introductory price seems fine to me, but I wouldn't mind receiving a discount coupon from the @WiiM Team. What do you think? I read them. Greetings to all!
