Beta Test: DLNA Cast

I’m not sure of the audio route you’re taking - could you expand please?

Are you suggesting using DLNA cast to send audio from your WiiM device to a DLNA renderer app on ios which in return outputs its audio over AirPlay to other target speakers? I wonder if mConnect (or jplay) can act as a DLNA renderer on iOS like Bubbleupnp can do on Android?
Sorry, I assume here that using an iOS device.

TT >> Wiim >> DLNA Cast >> IOS >> AirPlay >> AirPlay Receiver devices

I actually don't understand much, so it's possible I'm asking a lot of stupid questions.😅

It’s the DLNA Cast to iOS I’m struggling with - I can’t find an app that does what BubbleUPNp does on Android to allow it to be used as a DLNA endpoint. If we crack that, then what you suggest might work.

Hi, it’s been almost three weeks I think since this beta was issued/updated. Might we expect another version soon which will allow the target format and resolution level to be chosen, as well as the transfer of artwork etc to target devices, along with other improvements?

16 days since I submitted my ticket, and “Pending Eng Review” for 15 days.

I’m not too bothered about extra features at the moment, but would like them to fix the playback to at least make it listenable, and ultimately make it perform and sound at least as good as Airplay 2, but hopefully better.

Not only AirPlay, but using BubbleUPnP Server you should be able to cast from WiiM to a Chromecast group. It's not working at the moment, we think because WiiM isn't sending enough audio for Chromecast to buffer. WiiM have said they're looking at increasing the amount sent, so we'll see.

This is what I am hoping for. I just got my new WiiM Pro and found out AirPlay casting from line in has been removed, so hoping this DLNA casting feature will give me an option for using BubbleUPnP to bridge my turntable to my Chromecast speaker groups, that would be fantastic!

Hi, any updates to this feature - it’s now over three weeks since it was released and I would have expected feedback to have generated some changes e.g. the format and resolution changes mooted. Plus it’d be good to see artwork and track info sent to targets too. Thanks

My ticket #506208 has been "Pending Eng Review" for 20 days now, how long does this process usually take?
I think that’s the step up from “being processed” and means the ticket has been read and may well have been taken on board for a fix. The engineers wouldn’t normally get back to you unless they needed more info.

Hopefully we’ll get another beta soon - I’m losing track of which ones I’ve signed up for and which I’ve got between this, samba, amp usb out, new iOS app favorites page etc

With all the other new betas coming out, and the Ultra release, it seems as though this beta has been forgotten about.

I don’t think it’s been forgotten about as I guess after the demise of a previous casting feature this is a pretty important one to get right.

True. And as soon as that’s there, people will be clamouring for that to be in room correction too…
I figure it needs to come together, how can PEQ be split into 2 channels if there is no per channel correction in the RC? 🤔

Well, as usual, I may be talking out of my ass.

Guess in the first instance RC would just duplicate the values in each channel.

And re your second comment, never :)

Let me know if you are not already exhausted.

"duplicate the values in each channel"

I could not figure out how this actually works.
For example, my Yamaha AVR reflects the measurements for each channel in the PEQ for each channel.

But if the WiiM RC can't do per-channel measurements, how does it reflect them in the per-channel PEQ?

When you say "duplicate", do you mean reflect the same value on the left and right channels? But in that case, it seems to me that it would be quite difficult to adjust manually.

Thank you. 🙂

Edit:
Please forget it. 😅
Perhaps manual adjustment is not a problem if the left and right PEQs are adjusted to the same value.

Yeah, they could have a L/R/Combined switch rather than just L/R to allow you max freedom in editing the values.

Hi everyone, I am trying to understand how this works in order to decide whether to buy the new WiiM Ultra (with its USB input) and effectively use it as a DLNA server instead of a NAS. So will this work to transmit bit perfect audio or no:

DLNA server (WiiM Ultra + external SSD)—>>ethernet cable—>>switch—>>ethernet cable—>>DLNA receiver in my active speakers

At the moment no as this early beta only supports mp3 transmission to target devices for compatibility issues. However, it’s hoped that lossless 24/48 transmission may become available if your target device supports it. I guess I’d also rephrase your question around transcoding rather than bit perfection as DLNA is sharing files not an audio stream.
