WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.634663 - Nov 5, 2024

Yes, I'd gathered that was what it was probably doing.

It does seem like a bit of an ommission, though.

And I do feel 'EQ by input' rather than 'EQ by output' is just plain bizarre. I know a turntable may sound quite different to digital, but in general a digital input from a CD rip or streaming service (presuming they're the same master) will sound the same, at least in as far s their EQ balance is concerned.

But speakers and headphone will all sound different, and be far more likely to need different EQ.
Line in might need a different EQ, too, depending on what's connected. Bluetooth? Maybe ...

Another area where different EQ settings might be helpful are different radio stations ... but we cannot do that, because they're all treated as "Wi-Fi" (or "Ethernet"), just like USB ...

I guess the idea was that you might have different EQ for your tv than you would for your music library.

There was a long and somewhat frustrating thread on this “Wi-fi/ethernet” label in the EQ page just a day or so back - perhaps it should just be called “media” . I never noticed or had a problem with what it’s called as I just played stuff and EQ worked without noticing/ worrying it had a potentially confusing (to some) label…

That thread seems to have become very quiet now. Presumably that means he finally realised it was working 🤣

Let's hope so. We're running out of ways how to explain it.

When per-source EQ came out you could only change the settings for the currently active source. That was pretty inconvenient at initially got me puzzled concerting how to do that for USB. But it became obvious very soon that the Wi-Fi/Ethernet EQ is applied to USB, too.

It make sense if you know how it is implemented (USB handled by internally DLNA server accessed via network), as the WiiM Team do. Else it does not.

Any FR difference between (as an example) wi-fi and Bluetooth are likely to be tiny, borderline non-existent.

Of course, there are other aspects than FR, but they fall outside the limits of FR.

Now it may be useful to have the ability to EQ out even those tiny difference, no argument. But my point was that the differences in the output destination (speakers, headphones) will be far more desirable, by an order of magnitude.

Put another way, the FR difference between two digital sources (two CD players[digital out], or a CD player and a USB drive containing a rip of the same CD) compared to the FR difference between any pair of speakers and any pair of headphones, is not even remotely comparable. The latter will almost always be far greater.

Please wait for a while until the smart presets are available. 😉

WiiM support team roll back the firmware to earlier version, it works now. Hope WiiM could resolve the bug in next release of firmware.
So you can now play CD via DLNA? Which firmware did they give you? I have a Denon CEOL that has a CD player which I can see within the WiiM Home app, but it does not list the individual tracks, it only shows a CD is loaded, but I can’t play it
