WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.634663 - Nov 5, 2024

@WiiM Support
DLNA not working properly after recent update. Media in the USB Disk that connected to WiiM ultra disappeared from Home Music Share. The CD also can’t play over the DLNA network now.
I have a Denon CEOL that uses HEOS. I can browse the DLNA items and see the CD player built into the CEOL, but hitting play does nothing. Is this the type of thing that should be working via DLNA?

Mine worked perfectly before recent firmware update.

These are two totally different things, though.

WiiM had removed the Ultra's own DLNA server from showing up in Home Music Share. They thought it might lead to confusion, so decided to make the USB storage device accessible from the input selection only. This is exactly what @deadwing hat noticed:
Yes, USB Disk has disappeared from Home Music Share under browse in the app, however USB is available and playable in Source Input. Also USB Disk as a DLNA library is still available in my BubbleUPnP android app. So as you say DLNA not working as it did.
However, this idea wasn't all that brilliant in the end. First of all, users complaint (and rightly so) that they now had to teach everybody in the house to use different way for accessing different DLNA servers. Not so good. Secondly, and as you noted yourself ...
... playing source from USB disk, then automatically change to WiFi.
... the USB drive is accessed like a DLNA server on the network anyway, the input selection doesn't stick to "USB" ever.

On the other hand, all other DLNA servers on the network should be visible and usable through Home Network Share just as before. If this is not the case, this is a separate issue.

Admittedly, I am still surprised that playing a CD in real time (without loading it into any form of memory first) from a Blu-ray ever worked. This feature isn't even mentioned in the BDP-S6700 manual.

This was exactly what I did in the past. BDP-S6700 acts as DMS, all content (CD, USB) were playable.

DLNA media server perhaps?
Aha, I just learned that this is official DLNA jargon to differentiate
  • Digital Media Controller (DMC)
  • Digital Media Server (DMS)
  • Digital Media Renderer (DMR)
I can see in the manual haw the Sony is a DMS for an attached USB media. There's just no mention of it working for CDs. And given the way CDs are read I'm still surprised the data can serve as a continuous stream.

WiiM Home APP browser screenshots showing music tracks of the CD in the Blu-ray player, they were playable before recent firmware upgrade.

My sync between Speakers and Subwoofer cannot be finished.

The process starts: First comes the standard short squeak we all know, then the standard hiss we all know, then there is this new sound, low, very short.

At the end, I get info: "Oh No! An error occurred. Please increase your device's volume or raise crossover frequency of your subwoofer, then try again"

I changed sub gain from +3 to +15, and it still doesn't work.

What can be important here is that I have Wiim Ultra and speakers on the one side of the room, and subwoofer behind the couch in the corner, on the other side of the room.

Any ideas? +15 from +3 is already quite significant sub volume increase. I don't want to set volume on subwoofer to 50% and +15 in the app

First, delete the cache of the WiiM app, and restart it, and try again.

Didn't work.

I also noticed that increasing the volume of the subwoofer affects the second sound during this process - which comes from both the speakers and the subwoofer, but not the last short one, intended only for the subwoofer, after which the error is displayed. The subwoofer only emits a very short, silent hum for one second

I received info that If I had issues and I want to update firmware to the newest one, I may have the same issues again. Wiim Support asked me to wait if possible. There should be an updated version of Chromecast in a month.

For visibility - what is the problem with Chromcest (at least for me)
@Paola described the issue in a perfect way: "It is like if you slightly touched a playing vinyl record - it slows down and the pitch changes slightly suddenly."
I have the newest firmware now and that problem doesn't happen anymore for me. ☺️

Yup, it uses Ethernet or WiFi.

Yes, I'd gathered that was what it was probably doing.

It does seem like a bit of an ommission, though.

And I do feel 'EQ by input' rather than 'EQ by output' is just plain bizarre. I know a turntable may sound quite different to digital, but in general a digital input from a CD rip or streaming service (presuming they're the same master) will sound the same, at least in as far s their EQ balance is concerned.

But speakers and headphone will all sound different, and be far more likely to need different EQ.
