WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.703434 - Jan 3, 2025

I got the update, but I don't understand what the new FW update system is for. 🤔 As before, every time you search for a new FW it tells you that the device(s) are up to date.
At some point, and without any searching, as happened this morning to my Ultra, the rocket pop-up appears telling you that a new FW is available.
Frankly, the manual search for the FW(s) seems useless and not working for me.
Of course, this is my personal opinion.

Not sure about the full screen album art but not an issue for me, I just wish that there was another now playing screen with the smaller album art but with larger font to make it readable from 3m away even if had less detail just track info.

My Ultra just updated its firmware.
So far, so good... the new album art is a step forward imho.
Connectivity seems almost the same, Tidal Connect works fine and the refresh of the USB contents is clearly faster.

Strangely mines updated overnight no asking to be updated or any popup saying anything
Just now it’s the new version
Not that bothered and everything is working no black bars but a coloured background matching the album cover
Looks better imho

Mine updated overnight also, no prompt, no telling me it has been updated. I would have been totally in the dark that it has updated if I hadn't check the revision number.

I think that owners should be informed of any updates so they can check new features etc.

Also when it comes to firmware some people don't like to update straight away and would rather wait to see what feedback about the current update is out there before deciding to update, as I'm sure you can't rollback.

The release notes are pretty clear and helpful, I think :) :

What's New:

1. Firmware Update Enhancements: Update all devices with new versions at once to save time. Find it under More -> Firmware Updates.

The negative score is simply because it had been downvoted before this useful feature was removed.
I think removing it was a great idea. It's pretty sad to see people nasty enough to specifically request that a feature NOT be implemented just because they don't personally want it.

I can see it being useful if you have several devices (particularly of the same type) some of which have firmware updates available - rather than updating them serially, I expect this page will do them in parallel at the same time.

It’s not necessarily “nasty” - it could be they’d rather not have that proposed change, or they think the development effort could be better spent elsewhere. Not having downvotes means that you don’t get any indication of how many people wouldn’t like such a change to be effected.

Considering that the change proposed is optional and doesn't affect those who don't use it, it really doesn't make sense. My experience with the internet for enough years/decades now is that most people *are* nasty and will downvote things arbitrarily.

Additionally nobody here can possibly judge the development effort cost of one thing versus another, only WiiM realistically can. As a SW engineer myself I would be surprised if that specific feature represented more than a few minutes of actual dev. work but of course there is testing, corresponding APi/app updates etc.

IMHO upvoting is perfectly sufficient to rank requests by popularity and from a statistical perspective downvoting will simply invalidates the results completely. If 50% of all users want something (again optional, nothing is taken away), and the rest downvotes it, It ends up ranked at 0 which makes absolutelty no sense whatsoever

I suppose we can't see the new feature in action until the next firmware update is available. Nothing to see there at the moment.

Not all features requests are optional, neither was I quantifying nor comparing effort against another particular request, just that it would be non-zero. Democratising voting so you that you can see both positive and negative votes would help, but even a zero ranking is informative in that it just says as many people don’t want it than do.

Being able to see both positive and negative would make more sense. Otherwise you can't differentiate between something being ignored and something actually controversial.

That said like everything I tend to take "votes" with a grain of salt, and prefer conversations, which animators/moderators can use to create a ranking (possibly along with the votes data).

Anyways enough said on the matter :-) as for the art display I personally find the colour edges make it harder to recognise at a distance but that's not a high priority issue either

Why would someone check the release notes when there was no notification of an update
It's totally up to you if you allow automatic updates to happen on your smartphone. It's just between you and Google (or Apple).

Why would someone not check the release notes of the software he's using if there is a change in functionality?

Would my reply have been better if I hadn't mentioned the source of my wisdom?
