WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.709956 - Mar 6, 2025

I am new to WiiM, and my Ultra is running v5.2.705154(beta) ... How do I get to v5.2.70995 or do I just need to have patients? 🤓
Come off the beta - click on the firmware number in your device's settings and you should be given the option to return to public firmware releases

This update broke the proper functioning of the Bluetooth deactivation, being when either (a) the WiiM Ultra is switched off / on standby, or (b) another input other than Bluetooth is selected. The expected behaviour is detailed here: "To disconnect the current Bluetooth connection [either] Select a different input other than Bluetooth and Wi-Fi". I had a very unpleasant experience today, when, after having turned off the WiiM Ultra with the red button on the remote (which, via the trigger, also turned off my external amp and subwoofer) I went to use my Bluetooth earbuds: unexpectedly, my phone was still connected to the Bluetooth on the 'off' WiiM Ultra, and my music, intended for my earbuds, came blasting out of my speakers.

I don't think it's the new update causing this, It's been happening to me for a while, I am on an android beta test at the moment so I don't have the new firmware yet and it catches me out too. The way around it is to disconnect the phone Bluetooth from the wiim, then change the wiim input before powering the wiim down

Yes, it appears to work the same on devices that have not yet received the March update.

@DerisionBell
I think you can just press the input switch button on the remote once or (as @Ronnie D said) disconnect on the phone side.
(As described in the FAQ.)

5.1 is working great for me so far, but I do have a few observations which I think are related to my using Audio Pro A10's as surrounds (with an Ultra up front):

1. When I switch between Dolby Audio source material (from TV) and music source material (from USB, WiFi, etc.), the volume levels on the surrounds do not change. I often have to have the levels high when watching TV sources, which ends up being too loud for music. I guess this makes sense since the A10's are always just seeing the source as WiFi, but I think in this scenario it should be considered a different input so that the per-source level feature could help. Basically the speakers should take on fully defined configurations for different sources.

2. When I am listening to any music source I have the A10's set to mono, or "LR" via the app, because people are generally all around the room so the stereo soundstage is not consistent anyway. But when I am watching 5.1 content, the surrounds are set to L or R because everyone is facing the TV. Problem is that these settings seem to stick when changing sources. So after watching 5.1, I have to set the A10's to LR, and after listening to music I have to set them to L or R. Again, if the configuration could be defined per-source, this would be automatic.

Hope this makes sense to the Wiim staff. Happy to provide more detail or clarify anything I've muddied. Also, please let me know if there is a better place to report things like this. Thanks!

New user here... App tells me I have the latest firmware version, but quickly checked 8 and 9 and no dice?

When some of the release notes state "(requires an upcoming app update)" is it in this release or not? Confused 🫨

Ahh.. App update! Maybe I should read properly first before commenting! My bad, sorry all. 😳

Unfortunately this new VU meters settings is not working correctly.

Setting it to show source (input) it do that but the meter stay around +10 dB. The same is true for output measures. Even at 20% volume it is about +5 dB.

It's looking like the measures are not logarithmic as they should be.

The audio volume at 20% of the maximum amplitude is approximately -14.0 dBFS. Similarly, 20% of a reference value in decibels (dB) is also approximately-14.0 dB.

So as noted before, the scale is wrong.

With the new VU meters there is also the issue that the "needle" cannot be seen, except if you stay just in front of the device. It shall be bigger and in a contrast color.

@WiiM Team Do this look correct?

I have to agree. I tried the 2 new coloured VU meters and really like the cream coloured background, but unfortunately it is not viewable at a few meters distance away. Perhaps for a desktop/near field application it works.

It would be better if the needle and readings were bold/thicker. The original colour scheme is the most readable so I've reverted back to this.

However, and I know it's been mentioned a few times already, but a digital VU meter or spectrum analyzer would have been a better addition..
