If you don't want the latest FW you should block the Wiim device from the Internet.
If you don't do that they will push it out to you at some point.
I do want it, just wondering if I need first to get the one offered now and then the latest (out today) when available here in Europe, or just defer updates (on the app: "not now") to save one cycle.

but blocking the internet would mean castrating the wiim of its streaming services possibilities and only being able to play locally stored music. or am I making a serious fallacy?

You are correct sir, it does "castrate" it's streaming capabilities. I block all new firmware until the folks on this forum have ironed out all the snags and bugs that it contains. When I'm sure it OK, I then allow Internet access and get the new firmware.
As 90% of my listening is from a plex server located within my home network or via my TV thru HDMI it's no big problem for me but I accept it would be for a lot of people.

Why not just install a beta version? That should block any new update.

Interested to see how this works out with external USB DACs. I'll get an external DAC/headphone amp while waiting for Amp Ultra availability.

Hopefully no lip-sync issues with ARC input using external USB DAC.

Found some passive speakers I like that will fit my small space (152mm wide):

https://www.dali-speakers.com/en-us/products/opticon-mk2/opticon-1-mk2/
I use ARC input for watching stuff from Apple TV 4K and I have no lip sync issues despite my signal path to my speakers passing through an external DSP (miniDSP Flex digital I/O model applying DIRAC Live) which then feeds an external DAC (Topping E70 Velvet) that feeds monoblocs (Topping B200s) driving my KEF LS50 Metas, and they’re time-aligned (delayed) to three subs that are fed off a second miniDSP that is fed from the first miniDSP, and those three subs have their own DSP delays (SVS 3000 Micros and a PC-2000 Pro).

So yeah, lip sync not an issue.

There isn't a setting to adjust audio delay / lip sync over HDMI? It sounds like there isn't. BUT Isn't that a normal feature? I feel like I have that feature on my amp and I want to move from the wiim ultra to the wiim amp ultra, where I wouldn't need my amp. (I think my Shield TV has that feature. I wonder if the Apple TV does.)

Kodi has all that for local files, on the fly lipsync, center channel level (in 2.0 environment) not too sure about Wiim lipsync adjustment. I have never had a problem. What amp do you use?

I have the Sony STR-AN1000. It does have "A/V sync." It's a home theater focused amp but it handles hi-res audio well enough. I want a more minimalist set up though and go all wiim. Wiim is more music focused but a lip sync a/v sync feature is a must right? I see that the group audio delay function exists. I wonder if that is not meeting people's needs?

Group Audio Delay is only enabled in multi-room group; there is no lip-sync functionality when using a single WiiM device.

When playing the YouTube app on my TV connected to my WiiM Amp Ultra, the audio delay is often within 100ms and I don't experience any problems with normal viewing.

In many cases, there is lip-sync function on either the TV or the video streamer.

Apple TV has an auto-calibration/sync.
