What do you think of it?
For those who are impatient: Setup was seamless, with no issues during initial use. In my opinion, the Amp Ultra doesn't sound any worse than the Amp Pro. The screen is a nice gimmick.
More on that after I've had more than half an hour of relaxed listening. Yesterday I mainly set up the Amp Ultra; today I haven't had much time.

This means that after such a short time, I can't say much about the sound. My first impression is that there's no deterioration in sound compared to my Amp Pro;)

While on the « people should » category, how about « people should not show such contempt when posting » ?
Sorry, but you took in a spirit of contempt, and that was not how I was typing it. The comment sections have been guessing that Wiim was going to combine the Ultra and the Amp in a package. That may be the problem with comment sections, people get judged and called all sorts from a comment.

OK, I'm surprised to hear that as imo the amp ultra sounds much better than the amp pro in all my systems.
Have you already been able to test the Amp Ultra in all your systems? When did you get it? Have you done direct comparisons using a switch and volume adjustment? I swapped the Amp Pro for the Amp Ultra, so a direct comparison isn't possible for me.
How does this "sounds much better" manifest itself?

While I’ll leave @Mr Ee to answer himself, he was one of a small group of beta testers who were fortunate enough to get access to an Amp Ultra before it went on sale, so when he says he has used it in all his systems, I’d believe him…

Perhaps you should reconsider when throwing around comments like calling people blind.

The problem in most informal listening comparisons is how to control for level differences, auditory memory and common sources of bias. With loudspeaker amplifiers such controls are not trivial to setup.

And without controls in place it is difficult to say what is causing a device to be perceived as 'better' or 'worse' sounding than another one.
Could be something as simple as a fraction of dB level difference between the two (which could obviously easily be compensated by adjusting volume). Could also be many other reasons, of course - but sadly no way to know for sure without establishing proper controls in the listening test.

Which is why I personally always advocate caution when reading "sound quality" anecdotes shared by people online.

To clarify - I'm not trying to say that people's impressions are 'wrong'; just that they might not translate to other people as they could have been caused by any of a large number of uncontrolled variables in such tests.

My point wasn’t about whether it had been found to ”sound better” just that he had had an early chance to use and compare it in all his systems to counteract the tone of incredulity in the earlier comment.

Sure, just thought that (for the benefit of casual readers) it was worth reiterating some of the challenges with listening tests. :)

Glad to see so much excitement for the Amp Ultra! I'm going to be sitting down with the product manager soon to ask some questions I've taken from the community. If there's anything people would like to know, please ask here and I'll try to include some of the best ones!

As a reminder, please keep discussions respectful and constructive. We all bring different perspectives and interpretations to the table, especially when speculating or getting excited about new features and products. Let’s aim to assume good intent, avoid personal remarks, and help make this community a space where thoughtful discussion can thrive. Thanks for keeping it friendly and focused!

some internal photos to understand how the thermal evacuation was created?
compared to the vibelink?

I have two adjacent rooms (kitchen and dining room) with 8 inch b+w ceiling speakers and a KEF T2 sub. I originally had a Sonos:connect amp for each room, and replaced them about 3 weeks ago with Wiim amp pros after also trying the latest Sonos Amp. I wasn’t unhappy with the amp pros in fact I liked them with some minor quibbles but when the amp ultra became available on Amazon last week, I just figured more was better and ordered two knowing I could return the amp pros within the 30 day window. I found the ultras to be better in several ways in side by side listening:

- more authoritative bass
- imaging was slightly better
- easier to set up eq and sub timing

The amp pros gave odd room correction measurements and got the sub timing wrong so I had do everything manually. Also the eq using the graph sliders took more time to get right vs the ultra amp which tuned- up easily. With the amp ultras the two amps and the sub were synced more precisely and it made a noticeable difference. The sub integrated easily and blends well. At lower listening levels for whole house music I don’t think the differences are that noticeable but when you play at mid-level volume and higher, the ultra sounds better. Anyway, the amp pros went back, but I have two other rooms with amp pros that don’t get used as much so I’m going to keep.

- more authoritative bass

You need a body armor and a helmet when discussing sound impressions here! 😂

Now, this is just my subjective opinion, but I, like you, noticed a difference in the bass. Measuring the sweeps coming from the bookshelf mid-woofer, both gave the same response. However, when music was played, I could feel a difference. Also, the Ultra gives a much clearer perception of each individual note.

Again, this is my subjective opinion. Please do not use it as a reference. Please hear for yourself.

Thank you Ryan,

I am considering purchasing either the WiiM Amp Ultra as a standalone product or the combination of the WiiM Ultra + Vibelink Amp.

Obviously during development they have been compared back to back, both through measurement and listening tests. (I do not need the head phone socket or phono input) which of these two combinations would they consider to be the best sound quality? And what would they consider to be the difference between the two sound signatures and measurements? Unfortunately I do not have a shop nearby to listen to the two combinations back to back, so will have to just purchase by post.

Both the Amp ultra and the Vibelink have the same 'Advanced Thermal Management system' and 'Post Filter Feedback Technology' I would assume that the updated 'RoomFit™ Room Calibration Built-In' on the Amp Ultra will be an update/updated for the Ultra too, the website information has not been updated for the Ultra yet. I note that they have updated the speaker binding posts with colour coding which is a good idea.

On your website your state that the Vibelink Amp has a single TI TPA3255 amplifier chip and the WiiM Amp Ultra has Dual (2) TI TPA3255 amplifier chips, but both have the same power output of 100 watts into 8 ohms, how are the dual chips configured? To give the same power output as the single chip in the Vibelink Amp? And what were the target design implications for the dual chips.

Many thanks for your help.
