WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.704152 - Jan 10, 2025

Please review the WiiM Ultra update release notes below. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out to us. This firmware update is being rolled out in stages, with devices updating sequentially over the next few days.

5.2.704152 (In Progress)

Release date:

1 / 10 / 2025

What's New:
  1. Smart Preset: Create scenes for your favorite setups, including Input, Output, Playback, Volume, EQ, and Shuffle. Activate your scene with a single tap (requires app version 3.1.0). Learn more
  2. Simultaneous USB and Sub Output: Enjoy simultaneous USB and subwoofer output for an enhanced audio experience.
  3. Low-Delay Multi-Room Audio: Stream multi-room audio with low latency and perfect audio/video sync (requires app version 3.1.0). Learn more
  4. Remote Volume Step Customization: Adjust the volume step for each press of the remote’s volume buttons (requires app version 3.1.0).
  5. Replay Gain Enhancements: Replay Gain now supported for USB, NAS, Samba, and local libraries (requires app version 3.1.0).
  6. Remote Troubleshooting Improvements: Remote exception status is now provided to the app to assist with troubleshooting (requires app version 3.1.0).
  7. Screen Enhancements: Added a reboot option on the screen.
  8. Bluetooth & Network Pairing: In Setup mode, hold the play/pause button for 3 seconds to cancel pairing and network setup

Bug Fixes:
  1. Playback Enhancements: Fixed playback status after seeking, resolved artwork issues via Google Cast, and added sample rate/bit depth display on Alexa.
  2. USB Indexing: Addressed issues with artist and metadata display for certain music files.
  3. General Fixes: Various performance improvements and bug fixes.

Thanks so much for implementing Smart Presets.

I'd like to use the remote control preset buttons to change or turn off EQ for whatever is currently playing. These changes would help:

1) For "Choose EQ": Add an option "EQ Off" just under "Follow Current EQ"

2) For "Edit Preset": add "Audio Input" with an option to "Follow Current Input"

3) Add the ability to custom name each preset. That way a preset for EQ without any selected source could be identified

Yeah, so let's hope the team will vote on your request and allow GEQ and PEQ to be independent, and individually configured with smart presets 😁.
Hi Wiimer, harkpabst, Team

We're excited to share that we're working on an option to enable both GEQ and PEG simultaneously. This feature will be available as a Beta release by the end of January, with a public rollout planned for February. Stay tuned for updates!

Additionally, our current Smart Preset and Scene features are still a work in progress. We greatly appreciate your feedback and will incorporate it into future enhancements to make these features more intuitive and powerful. Your input is invaluable as we continue to improve!

I have the same DAC and noticed that too. I think what happens is when the DAC turns itself off due to "no signal" it vanishes from USB. I don't know if the issue here is that it wants to go into USB suspend mode and the WiiM doesn't supports that properly, or if the DAC actually vanishes from USB completely in which case it's a DAC bug. I suppose I might be able to figure it out by plugging it into a PC and analysing what happens at the USB level but I don't really have time for that

In my case this was solved by using the 12V trigger to control the DAC. This worked fine until this latest FW update. That said here too I don't know if the problem has anything to do with the trigger. I setup the topping to just stay on and it didn't help. With the new firmware, when the Ultra turns off, it turns itself back on either immediately or shortly afterwards whenever it is setup to use USB output.
Hi @bherren
Even with the new FW my trigger works properly

@Maurizio i tried usb with rc on both stereo and independent. There was no anomaly. Ultra is connected on usb hub with 3 external dac connected to it. R2r, akm and ess. They all have different way presenting music despite their sinad of 120 plus db. To my subjective comment dac is way flavoring music. I would think if your ear is having difficult time hearing highs you would pick ess and if you’re sensitive with detail and want smooth highs you may want to stick to r2r or even akm. All these are subjective your miles may vary.

Even with a USB DAC ? It might depend on the specific DAC then. That said as I mentioned the issue doesn't seem to be the trigger. Even without using the trigger and leaving the DAC on, the new FW causes the WiiM to turn back on after being turned off when using USB

Hi, maybe it was already answered somewhere here, but I would like to ask if it is planned for the Smart Presets to be included the Playback Screen style? I use different styles for different inputs, and I have to manually change it everytime. This would be awesome if it was added into presets.

Yeah definitely easily reproducible on my end too. As soon Wiim goes into standby, the 12V out trigger turns off the USB DAC, the DAC turns off which signals Wiim that the USB device went offline, which in turn moves Wiim out of standby and re-triggers 12V. And that turns the USB DAC back on...loop continues

Not heard that mentioned to be honest, but the more options smart presets get, the more it sounds like they would have been better implementing saved configs/profiles covering all or a subset of app settings and have those associated with a preset.

Preset editor shows volume limiter value when fixed volume is used, but it's not editable. Can someone confirm it?

Hi @Smartplug
I don't know what to think. In my Ultra the RC per channel works only in Stereo. Can it depend on my DAC? A defect in my Ultra? 🤔 I really don't know. However, I have seen in the Community pages that I am not the only one with that problem. I have also opened tickets but they have gone unanswered.
I agree with you about the sound signature of the various DACs. In fact, I have different EQs for each of them, including the Line output of the Ultra and indeed the various curves differ, although not much, from each other.;)
Regarding RC per channel, I solved it using HouseCurve. Everything works at the best with this App. I have a clean SweepTone on both the SX and DX channels. This App also has the advantage of being able to use my calibrated imm-6c, because it allows you to import the calibration file.

Simultaneous USB and Sub Output: Enjoy simultaneous USB and subwoofer output for an enhanced audio experience.
That is bad for my setup. I use the WiiM as a kind if switch between active speaker & sub versus an USB DAC/Amp only for headphones.
If I turn on the DAC WiiM changed automatically the output to USB out and Sub out was not "working". When I turn on the DAC, WiiM output changed back to line out. In this mode sub out is working perfectly.

Now with above feature I always need to grab my phone and need to do several clicks to turn on/off sub out regarding what I want to use: speaker or headphones.

I really would appriciate some additional settings in the subwoofer settings to set, when sub out should be enabled and when disabled based on each out mode. Would be lovely.

Until then I would like to ask for a rollback to an oder Firmware.

Whitelisted users because of Google Cast issues always must wait around 5-6 days more to get the updates  Still waiting for new firmware

while waiting for the rc mode to mature, it seems to remain the easy approach so as not to waste time...etc (or rew "for the most armed")
(or we have the soul of a beta tester)

The smart presets is a great idea, I need it to turn off fixed audio to enable to use headphones, which would be my main use of this feature, is it known if this is planned?
