WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.704152 - Jan 10, 2025

Here’s a golden goose question, did you hear improvement using usb over coax? In paper, using usb has the advantage but our ear is not instrumental grade where tiniest information can be detected. The usb in ultra remain active even goes on standby and the dac sense it why it doesn’t turn off. I’m using the trigger 12v on the amp. I did not know independent rc don’t work right till I read your message. I will do extensive listening and weigh in the pros and cons of usb. Having dac that won’t turn off like before was deal breaker for me.
Hi @Smartplug
TBH If we talk about sound quality, between USB; SPDIF; and COAX I hear absolutely no difference. Qualitatively speaking, the three different connections, to me, all sound the same. ;)
And....yes, I too would like my DAC to turn off using the automatic On/ Off instead of the Trigger

3 empty presets were edited in Smart Presets and different PEQs were applied. All inputs are Ethernet.

When I pressed each preset button, could change only the EQ seamlessly without stopping the music.

So far it is great 😁👍.

As already said, it would be useful if the preset names could be changed.

I may have to stick with coax since it would turn off my dac.

@WiiM Team We for sure need to be able to edit the Presets picture and name!

I just got the update for both IOS and Android of the App and discovered what for me is a big miss.
I tried to play with the Smart Presets, just out of curiosity because I don't care to use them and I discovered this lack.
It is not possible to assign a name to the save. I tried 2 different settings, both with WiFi In, and different outputs and equalizations. Well, both presets were saved as WiFi. I can't change the name, but.....how do I distinguish between the two?🤔

I wonder if that USB indexing fix is inadvertently waking the device up

It is indeed a shame - being unable to rename presets was raised very early on in the beta.
I have a bad feeling about the latest UI design decisions from @WiiM Team. It's like they really don't understand how the product is used and how to generally design user interfaces. This is in contrast to the initial design of the WiiM Home App, that was very good.

There is now a lack of consistency in functionality and new functions is only halfway implemented.

Let us hope WiiM will step up on this on an else good product.

1)
It would be great to be able assign playback screen to preset also.
Especially that it shows technical name "Optical name" instead my "CD Player" custom one when use CD. For CD I prefer VU screen (even such lazy we have) and for "Ethernet" album view.
2)
For my headphones mode I have: I have to set volume to 100% because my headphone amp has its volume knob and it needs more volume on input. But then I have to set volume for others Presets to lower volume eg 20% to avoid heart atack :)
It would be great to have "fixed volume out " option for Presets. I think it's quite common usage.

Renaming favourites is a must, I have set 4 presents for phono with different EQs but when I look at the presets they all say phono

This is a common failing when features are added. They never work well enough to actually make them worth using. In the smart presets case this extends to not being able to name the preset, no subwoofer settings and no volume limit settings. Users are likely to try different crossover frequencies etc for different room correction presets but the current implementation doesn't allow this to be saved as a smart presets.

Frankly, I don't see why the crossover setting should be included in the smart presets. Wouldn't that just be something that could be set once per device? 🤔

Yes. Strange design.

Why not just save all current configuration parameters with the option to select for each if they are overwriting or not when Preset is selected.

This would be a logical extension of the "old" functionality.

Not really, you could say the same about PEQ for room correction but some users use different PEQ for different purposes. You could have room correction with and without subwoofer. Stereo and independent channel PEQ. If you still need to remember to change subwoofer settings (gain as well as crossover etc) and volume limit to match a particular PEQ you aren't going to bother using the presets.

On the Edit Smart Preset screen, a three-point icon appears to the right of a empty preset to select the input 😄.

Good, but why is duration left as an option when you’re not playing content? I’ll probably raise a ticket.

Also seems to default name to the input parameter - need an option to change that.
